摘要: Disclosed herein are representative embodiments of methods, apparatus, and systems used to deliver a prosthetic heart valve to a deficient valve. In one embodiment, for instance, a support member is positioned to at least partially surround the native leaflets of a valve. A locking member is used to couple both ends of the support member, forming a support band. An expandable prosthetic heart valve is delivered into the native heart valve and expanded while the expandable prosthetic valve is at least partially within the support band, thereby causing one or more of the native leaflets of the native heart valve to be frictionally secured between the support band and the expanded prosthetic heart valve.

摘要: The present disclosure is directed to embodiments of catheter-based prosthetic heart valves, and in particular, prosthetic heart valves having sealing devices configured to seal the interface between the prosthetic valve and the surrounding tissue of the native annulus in which the prosthetic valve is implanted. In one embodiment, a prosthetic heart valve includes an annular sealing member that can be placed in a delivery orientation extending axially away from one end of the valve when the valve is in a radially compressed state. When the valve is expanded, the expansion of the frame causes the sealing member to be pulled to an operative orientation covering a portion of the frame. The present disclosure also discloses new mechanisms and techniques for mounting valve leaflets to a frame of a prosthetic heart valve.

摘要: Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a prosthetic heart valve and a heart valve delivery apparatus for delivery of the prosthetic heart valve to a native valve site via the human vasculature. The delivery apparatus is particularly suited for advancing a prosthetic valve through the aorta (i. e., in a retrograde approach) for replacing a diseased native aortic valve. In one embodiment, a self-expanding valve comprises an expandable stent that is shaped to maintain the valve in the aortic annulus against axial without anchors or retaining devices that engage the surrounding tissue. A delivery apparatus for delivering s self-expanding prosthetic valve can be configured to allow controlled and precise deployment of the valve from a valve sheath so as to minimize or prevent jumping of the valve from the valve sheath.

摘要: A method for replacing a deficient native mitral valve includes positioning a support band around the leaflets of a native mitral valve and expanding a prosthetic heart valve within the native mitral valve. After the prosthetic heart valve is expanded, the leaflets of the native mitral valve are captured between the prosthetic heart valve and the support band. The prosthetic heart valve and support band are delivered into the body as separate and independent components. The prosthetic heart valve and support band may be deliverable into the left ventricle via a transapical approach in a minimally invasive procedure.

摘要: Apparatus and methods are provided for use with a blood vessel of a subject, including a stent (20) configured to be placed in the blood vessel. The stent includes at least first (32), second (34), and third (36) strut portions disposed along the stent. The first and second strut portions are coupled to one another at a first junction (37A) that facilitates bending of the first and second strut portions with respect to one another. The second and third strut portions are coupled to one another at a second junction (37B) that facilitates bending of the second and third strut portions with respect to one another. At least one electrode (22) is disposed on at least an outer surface of the stent. Other applications are also described.

In one embodiment, for instance, a support stent is delivered to a position on the surface of the outflow side of a native heart valve of a patient, the support stent defining a support-stent interior. An expandable prosthetic heart valve is delivered into the native heart valve from the inflow side of the native heart valve and into the support-stent interior. The expandable prosthetic heart valve is expanded while the expandable prosthetic valve is in the support-stent interior and while the support stent is at the position on the surface of the outflow side of the heart valve, thereby causing one or more of the native leaflets of the native heart valve to be frictionally secured between the support stent and the expanded prosthetic heart valve.

摘要: A steering tool includes an internal tube disposed inside an external tube. The internal and external tubes are arranged for longitudinal axial movement relative to one another. A distal end of the internal tube is fixedly joined to a distal end of the external tube. A tube manipulator can cause relative axial movement and distal bending of the internal and external tubes. A locking mechanism can switch between a locked position in which the internal and external tubes are locked at a particular longitudinal axial position relative to one another, and an unlocked position in which there is uninhibited free movement of the internal and external tubes relative to one another. The locking mechanism also includes an intermediate locked position in which there is partially inhibited movement of the internal and external tubes relative to one another.
