摘要: An atmospheric pressure ionization apparatus includes a chamber, an ion inlet structure, an electrode, a sample emitter, and a gas passage. The ion inlet structure includes a sampling orifice. The electrode includes an electrode bore. An ionization region is defined between the ion inlet structure and the electrode. The flared structure is coaxially disposed about the ion inlet structure, and extends along an outward direction that includes a radial component relative to the sampling axis. The sample emitter is oriented at an angle to the sampling axis for directing a sample stream toward the ionization region. The gas passage directs a stream of gas from a gas source to the chamber. The flared structure and the wall cooperatively form an outward-directed portion of the gas passage that extends annularly about the sampling axis and along the outward direction. The gas flows through the outward-directed portion, around the flared structure, and toward the ionization region and the electrode bore.

摘要: A nebulizer assembly particularly well adapted as a liquid chromatograph/mass spectrometer interface including a pair of nebulizer plates, a base, and a cap for tightly holding the nebulizer plates against the base. A first nebulizer plate has a centrally located outlet orifice and a radially extending groove, and the second plate has a centrally located gas inlet orifice and a radially displaced liquid inlet orifice. The gas inlet orifice aligns with the outlet orifice and an aperture provided in the cap, and the liquid inlet orifice aligns with a section of the groove provided in the first nebulizer plate. When the gas inlet orifice is coupled to a pressurized gas source and the liquid inlet orifice is coupled to a pressurized liquid source, uniform droplets having a diameter of approximately 10 microns can be formed from an outlet orifice twice that diameter.

摘要: The invention relates to an apparatus for forming liquid droplets, such as a micro nebulizer, useful for preparing samples for subsequent analysis via MS, AA, ICP, CE/MS, and similar analytical systems. The apparatus has a mechanically stabilized inner microtube or needle, thereby ensuring controllably uniform droplet size. The mechanical stabilization is provided by securing the inner microtube or needle, such as by narrowing the inner diameter of the outer microtube or otherwise narrowing the annular intermediate space between the inner and outer microtubes for a predetermined length. Thus, the inner microtube is secured in a centered or otherwise predetermined fixed radial position, with minimum perturbation of the fluid flow. Further, a tip, when coupled with the exit end of the outer microtube, provides a region in which the sheath fluid flow in the outer microtube stabilizes prior to both exiting the tip and colliding with the liquid analyte exiting the inner microtube.

摘要: A method for manufacturing a multipole assembly for use in mass spectrometers, residual gas analyzers, mass filters, ion containment apparatus and particle beam accelerators. A precision mandrel tool is utilized for positioning a plurality of electrode rods in position during the manufacturing process. The electrode rods are placed on the mandrel. At least one insulator is positioned about the mandrel-rod assembly such that the mandrel-rod assembly psses through the insulator. The rods are tightly clamped to the mandrel and adhesive is placed in a gap established between each rod and the insulator. The adhesive is cured such that it acts both as a rigid bond between the insulator and each rod, as well as a precision spacer for positioning each rod in a precision position after the mandrel is removed from the assembly.

摘要: In an embodiment, a collision cell comprises rods each having a first end and a second end remote from the first end; an inductor connected between adjacent pairs of rods; and means for applying a radio frequency (RF) voltage between adjacent pairs of rods. The RF voltage creates a multipole field in a region between the rods; and means for applying a direct current (DC) voltage drop along a length of each of the rods.
