    摘要: A piezoelectric fuel injection system and a method of controlling same are provided which include a piezoelectric fuel injector having a piezoelectric element, a power source adapted to provide power to the piezoelectric element to actuate the piezoelectric fuel injector, and a controller adapted to charge the piezoelectric element to an initial voltage to begin said injection event, to decrease the voltage from the initial voltage to an intermediate voltage, and to increase the voltage from the intermediate voltage to a primary voltage to thereby control the injection rate shape. The initial voltage level is at least approximately equal to said primary voltage level and preferably approximately equal to a maximum voltage rating. The initial voltage duration, the intermediate voltage duration and the magnitude of the intermediate voltage can be changed or varied to modify the injection or rate shape.

Importantly, the injector includes a preload chamber positioned along an injection control valve member for receiving high pressure fuel. The high pressure fuel acts on the injection control valve member to apply a preload force to supply a preload force to the stack of piezoelectric elements thereby ensuring more accurate control over fuel injection timing and metering.

    摘要: The present invention relates to a system and method for managing the operation of a turbocharger and is responsible for controlling the turbocharger to cause a desired air mass flow to be provided to the engine and for protecting the turbocharger from excessive shaft speed and excessive turbine inlet temperature. The protection modes have higher priority than the performance control. First, turbocharger shaft speed is checked against a programmable limit, and the turbocharger is adjusted to bring the speed under control if its speed exceeds this limit. If the speed is not above the limit, the turbine inlet temperature is checked against a second programmable limit. If the turbocharger inlet temperature is above the predetermined limit, the turbocharger is adjusted to bring the inlet temperature under control. If, after either of these adjustments are made, the predetermined limits are still exceeded by the turbocharger, then the system invokes a derating of the fueling to the engine in order to protect the turbocharger. If none of the limits have been exceeded, then the system operates the turbocharger to provide the desired air mass flow to the engine in order to maximize engine performance.

A control computer compares the delta pressure signal to a modeled delta pressure value modeled as a function of at least engine speed and one of engine load and engine output torque percentage, and diagnoses a fault state of the delta pressure sensor based on the comparison.

    摘要: A method for automatically resuming vehicle speed control after a gear change of the vehicle's manual transmission. The method may be implemented as a subroutine in the vehicle's general control software. After disengagement of the clutch, the subroutine suspends the automatic speed control system and then periodically checks to determine if the driver has shifted gears within a predetermined time period. This determination is made by checking to see if the clutch has once again been engaged with the transmission in gear. If this occurs within the predetermined time period, then the control system automatically resumes the speed control of the engine. The determination of whether the transmission has been placed into another gear is made by an examination of calculated gear ratios, rather than by the addition of a hardware sensor.
