    摘要: The manufacture of seamless tubes in which the process includes providing an assembly having a metal tube blank, and an elongate metal core of shape memory effect material which is surrounded and contacted by the tube blank with a minimal gap. The assembly is elongated by mechanical working thereof at an elevated temperature until the tube blank has been converted into a tube of desired dimensions. After the elongation step, the core is subjected to a treatment which results in the core being in a stretched condition throughout its length, and does not substantially stretch the tube. The core is removed from the tube, and subsequently subjected to drawing passes over a nondeformable mandrel thereby refining the precision of diametric and wall dimensions with improved ID and OD surface quality. There is also decoring and reinserting to improve final dimensions which results in the ability to fabricate smaller, longer tubes.

    摘要: The present invention provides a device or apparatus for manipulating matter in a confined or inaccessible space, comprising manipulator means at least partly constructed of one or more bent or twisted elongate metallic members having pseudoelasticity at the intended manipulation temperature, and a hollow housing (preferably of elongate tubular form) or cannula capable of holding at least the metallic member(s) in a relatively straightened state, and actuating means for extending the metallic member(s) from the housing to manipulate matter within the said space and for withdrawing the metallic member(s) into the housing, the arrangement being such that the metallic member(s) bend(s) or twist(s) pseudoelastically in a lateral or helical sense to manipulate the matter on extending from the housing at the said manipulation temperature, and become(s) relatively straightened on withdrawal into the housing at the said temperature.Preferably the invention provides such a device or apparatus which is of elongate form for surgical manipulation of matter within a living body, and which has the manipulator means at its distal end with the metallic member(s) having pseudoelasticity at the temperature to be encountered within that body, and wherein the actuating means is operable from the proximal end of the device.

    摘要: A surgical device for suturing a wound in the tissue of a patient. The device includes a longtiudinal sheath having a proximal end and a distal end, a recess formed in the wall of the sheath toward the distal end, a needle constructed of a spring-like material, a retaining mechanism that constrains the needle in a retracted position by deforming the needle, and an actuator at the proximal end of the sheath that releases the restraining mechanism to allow the needle to assume an undeformed condition and move to an exposed position. The needle is movable from the retracted position, where the needle is withdrawn into the recess, to the exposed position, where the needle extends from the recess and points generally in the direction of the proximal end of the device.
