Abstract: A process for producing ethylene comprising: (a) reacting a reactant mixture in a reactor to yield a product mixture, wherein the reactor comprises a catalyst, wherein the reactant mixture comprises ethane, oxygen, and a chlorine intermediate precursor, wherein the product mixture comprises ethylene, unreacted ethane, carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide, wherein the catalyst comprises a redox agent, an alkali metal, and a rare earth element; and (b) recovering at least a portion of the ethylene from the product mixture. The reacting in step (a) further comprises (i) contacting at least a portion of the chlorine intermediate precursor with the catalyst to form a chlorinated catalyst; (ii) allowing at least a portion of the chlorinated catalyst to generate a chlorine intermediate; and (iii) allowing at least a portion of the reactant mixture to react via the chlorine intermediate.

Abstract: A process for producing ethylene and syngas comprising reacting, via OCM, first reactant mixture (CH4&O2) in first reaction zone comprising OCM catalyst to produce first product mixture comprising ethylene, ethane, hydrogen, CO2, CO, and unreacted methane; introducing second reactant mixture comprising first product mixture to second reaction zone excluding catalyst to produce second product mixture comprising ethylene, ethane, hydrogen, CO, CO2, and unreacted methane, wherein a common reactor comprises both the first and second reaction zones, wherein ethane of second reactant mixture undergoes cracking to ethylene, wherein CO2 of second reactant mixture undergoes hydrogenation to CO, and wherein an amount of ethylene in the second product mixture is greater than in the first product mixture; recovering methane stream, ethane stream, CO2 stream, ethylene stream, and syngas stream (CO&H2) from the second product mixture; and recycling the ethane stream and the carbon dioxide stream to second reaction zone.

Abstract: Processes for conversion of methane and ethane into syngas and ethylene are provided. An exemplary process can include providing a reaction mixture of methane, ethane, oxygen, and carbon dioxide and contacting the reaction mixture with a catalyst that includes at least one metal oxide. The processes can be combined processes in which oxidative dry reforming of methane and dehydrogenation of ethane to ethylene with carbon dioxide and oxygen occur concurrently.

Abstract: Methods and systems for converting methane to syngas are provided. Certain exemplary methods and systems involve reacting methane and carbon dioxide with a nickel oxide catalyst in a reaction chamber, thereby providing syngas and a reduced nickel species. The reduced nickel species can be regenerated by oxidation with air in a regeneration chamber, thereby generating a regenerated nickel oxide and heat. The regenerated nickel oxide and heat can be returned to the reaction chamber to drive the syngas reaction.

Abstract: A process for producing C2+ hydrocarbons comprising introducing a reactant mixture to an oxidative coupling of methane (OCM) reactor comprising an OCM catalyst composition; wherein the reactant mixture comprises CH4, O2, and a chlorine intermediate precursor; wherein the chlorine intermediate precursor is present in the reactant mixture from about 1 ppm to about 100 ppm, based on the total volume of the reactant mixture; allowing the reactant mixture to contact the OCM catalyst composition and react via an OCM reaction to form a product mixture comprising unreacted methane and C2+ hydrocarbons; wherein the process for producing C2+ hydrocarbons is characterized by improved performance in the presence of the chlorine intermediate precursor; recovering at least a portion of the product mixture from the OCM reactor; and recovering the C2+ hydrocarbons from the product mixture. The OCM reactor is operated under autothermal or isothermal conditions.

Abstract: A mixed oxide catalyst for the oxidative coupling of methane can include a catalyst with the formula AaBbCcDdOx, wherein: element A is selected from alkaline earth metals; elements B and C are selected from rare earth metals, and wherein elements B and C are different rare earth metals; the oxide of at least one of A, B, C, and D has basic properties; the oxide of at least one of A, B, C, and D has redox properties; and elements A, B, C, and D are selected to create a synergistic effect whereby the catalytic material provides a methane conversion of greater than or equal to 15% and a C2+ selectivity of greater than or equal to 70%. Systems and methods can include contacting the catalyst with methane and oxygen and purifying or collecting C2| products.

A method of making an oxidative coupling of methane (OCM) catalyst composition comprising (a) forming an oxide precursor mixture, wherein the oxide precursor mixture comprises one or more compounds comprising a Sr cation, one or more compounds comprising a Ce cation, and one or more compounds comprising a Yb cation, and wherein the oxide precursor mixture is characterized by a molar ratio of Sr:(Ce+Yb) that is not about 1:1, and (b) calcining at least a portion of the oxide precursor mixture to form the OCM catalyst composition, wherein the OCM catalyst composition comprises Sr—Ce—Yb—O perovskite in an amount of less than about 75.0 wt. %.
