There are the primary fuel nozzle for jetting the first coal in the fine powder form with an air ratio up to 1, and the secondary fuel nozzle for jetting the second coal in the fine powder form with an air ratio at least 1 from the outer circumferential portion of the primary fuel nozzle. Swirl means are located at the top of the secondary fuel nozzle for swirling the second coal.

An alkylenesulfonic group and/or an alkylenesulfo-ether group is introduced as an ionic conductivity-imparting group into a polyazole such as a polyimidazole, a polyoxazole, or a polythiazole each having good resistance to oxidation. The resulting polymer yields an electrolyte, an electrolyte membrane, and a membrane electrode assembly which are available at low cost, contains ionic conductivity-imparting groups stable over extended periods of time and satisfactorily resistant to oxidative degradation. This enables long-term continuous use of mobile cell power sources, dispersed cell power sources, and cell power sources for mobile units.

A fuel cell includes cell units each composed of a hydrogen ion conductive polymeric electrolyte membrane, a pair of electrodes arranged on the front and rear faces of the hydrogen ion conductive polymeric electrolyte membrane, and a diffusion layer contacting the electrodes to cover the electrodes. The cell units are pushed down by an end plate having a current-collecting metallic plate and a resin substrate for fixing the current-collecting metallic plate. A layer having a humidity-adjusting component is formed on the surface of the resin substrate of the end plate.

A fuel cartridge is applicable to the fuel cell comprising an anode, a cathode, a polymer electrolyte membrane and a fuel wicking structure for feeding liquid fuel to the anode. The fuel cartridge comprises a fuel container and a porous fuel transport wick. The porous fuel transport for transporting the liquid fuel to the fuel cell, is incorporated in the fuel container. The fuel cartridge is configured to feed the liquid fuel stored in the cartridge to the fuel cell through the porous fuel transport wick, with assist of the negative capillary attraction which occurs in the fuel wicking structure depending on fuel consumption at the anode.

An aqueous solution fuel is fed to a fuel cell by using a propellant gas composed of a pressure has or pressure-liquefied gas. The aqueous solution fuel and the propellant gas are held in an exchangeable fuel cartridge. An ejector for ejecting the aqueous solution fuel from the fuel cartridge to the fuel cell with the propellant gas is provided at the side of the fuel cartridge or at the side of the fuel cell.

The present invention provides an electrolyte membrane for a fuel cell that has a minute projection cluster on one side or both sides of a polymer electrolyte membrane. Further, the present invention provides a production method of an electrolyte membrane for a fuel cell, wherein a mold comprising convex portions having a fixed planar pattern is pressed on one side or both sides of a polymer electrolyte membrane, then while concave portions of the polymer electrolyte membrane formed in the concave portions are being stretched, the mold is removed from the polymer electrolyte membrane for forming a minute projection cluster.
