摘要: In a catalyst unit which purifies the exhaust gas of an engine, a first layer comprising a zeolite hydrocarbon adsorbent is formed on a monolithic substrate. A catalyst layer comprising palladium, platinum or rhodium as a three way catalyst is formed on the first layer. The Geometrical Surface Area of the monolithic substrate is set in the range of 10-35 cm.sup.2 /cm.sup.3. The weight ratio of the first layer and the catalyst layer is set to from 9:1 to 1:4.

摘要: An exhaust gas purifying catalyst including a carrier having a plurality of cells as exhaust gas passages, an HC adsorbent layer formed on the carrier of each of the cells, and an upper catalyst layer disposed on an upstream side of each of the exhaust gas passages on the HC adsorbent layer and a lower catalyst layer disposed on a downstream side of each of the exhaust gas passages on the HC adsorbent layer. The upper catalyst layer includes more O2-storage material than the lower catalyst layer, and the lower catalyst layer includes a catalyst having a wider activation range than the upper catalyst layer.

摘要: A vehicle-mounted exhaust gas purifying system includes at least a first three-way catalyst and a plurality of HC adsorbing/purifying catalysts downstream thereof on an exhaust gas passage. Each of the HC adsorbing/purifying catalysts includes a monolithic carrier having a plurality of cells, and includes HC adsorbent layer and purifying catalyst layer, which are formed on the monolithic carrier. Moreover, the number of cells per unit areas of one HC adsorbing/purifying catalysts on an upstream side is larger than the number of cells per unit areas of another HC adsorbing/purifying catalyst on a downstream side.

摘要: An exhaust gas purifying catalyst includes a honeycomb substrate, and HC adsorbent layers containing zeolite and having a thickness ranging from 100 μm to 500 μm. Each of the HC adsorbent layers has an approximately circular surface on a cross section perpendicular to a direction where each of the cells of the honeycomb substrate is extended, and has circumferential-direction cracks extended in a circumferential direction and radial-direction cracks extended in a radial direction. The circumferential-direction cracks and the radical-direction cracks are unconnected to each other or are connected in an extent not to cause layer exfoliation in the HC adsorbent layers. A manufacturing method of the exhaust gas purifying catalyst is to coat slurry containing zeolite on the honeycomb substrate plural times, to dry or fire the coated slurry, and to form the HC adsorbent layers.

Each of the heat capacitor and the second HC-trap-catalyst has a honeycomb carrier, and a ratio Gt/Gh2 of a geometric surface area Gt of the honeycomb carrier of the heat capacitor to a geometric surface area Gh2 of the honeycomb carrier of the second HC-trap-catalyst is in a range of 1 to 5.

摘要: An exhaust gas purifying catalyst comprises a hydrocarbon adsorbent layer and a metal-based catalyst layer on a monolithic support. The catalyst contains zeolite in the underlying hydrocarbon adsorbent layer and contains noble metals such as palladium, platinum, rhodium, etc. in the overlying metal-based catalyst layer. Also, both layers contain an alkaline metal, etc., and a weight ratio of the alkaline metal, etc. contained in the metal-based catalyst layer to the alkaline metal, etc. contained in the hydrocarbon adsorbent layer is set to 60:40 to 99:1. The catalyst comprises a substrate over which a hydrocarbons adsorbing material layer is formed as a lower layer to absorb hydrocarbons contained in exhaust gas. The hydrocarbons adsorbing material layer contains zeolite and colloidal silica which has undergone firing. The colloidal silica is in a chain-like form and/or a spherical form before and after the firing. Additionally, a catalyst component layer is formed as an upper layer over the hydrocarbons adsorbing material layer. The catalyst component layer contains a catalyst metal.
