    摘要: Disclosed herein is a fuel injector for an internal combustion engine, which can achieve the improved responsiveness to the target fuel pressure as well as the improved controllability even when the fuel pressure is greatly decreased.A fuel injector for an internal combustion engine: a high pressure pump 103 for pressure feeding high pressure fuel of the internal combustion engine; a fuel rail 105 for accumulating the fuel that has been pressure fed by the high pressure pump; an injection valve 106 for injecting, into a cylinder, the fuel accumulated in the fuel rail;a fuel pressure sensor 104 for detecting the pressure of the fuel that is accumulated in the fuel rail; an electromagnetic relief valve 107 for discharging the pressure accumulated fuel of the fuel rail; and an ECU 110 for controlling opening and closing of the electromagnetic relief valve 107. The ECU 110 repeats the opening and closing of the relief valve to discharge the fuel pressure in stages so that the fuel pressure in the fuel rail is decreased down to the target fuel pressure.

A high-pressure fuel supply apparatus is provided to solve such a problem.A high-pressure fuel supply apparatus according to the present invention is configured such that if the high-pressure fuel supply apparatus or a control apparatus thereof causes malfunction to increase the pressure in the common rail, the pressure in the common rail does not exceed pressure affecting the flow characteristic and spray characteristic of the injector after recovery from the malfunctioning state.

    摘要: In a drive unit of a fuel injection device, an electric current is supplied to the fuel injection device by applying a high voltage to the fuel injection device from a high voltage source whose voltage is boosted to a voltage higher than a battery voltage at the time of opening a valve of the fuel injection device. Thereafter, the electric current supplied to the fuel injection device is lowered to a current value at which a valve element cannot be held in a valve open state by stopping the applying of the high voltage from the high voltage source. Thereafter, in a stage where a supply current is switched to a hold current, another high voltage is applied to the fuel injection device from the high voltage source.

    摘要: A catalytic converter arrangement incorporated in an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine includes an exhaust manifold for ducting emissions from the engine; and first and second catalytic converters. The first catalytic converter is connected to and positioned immediately downstream from the exhaust manifold. The first catalytic converter has a ceramic catalyst support on an upstream side thereof and a metal catalyst support on a downstream side thereof. The second catalytic converter is connected to the first catalytic converter through an exhaust pipe and positioned downstream from the first catalytic converter. The second catalytic converter has a ceramic catalyst support. Thus, overheating of the metal catalyst support of the first catalytic converter can be prevented due to absorption of heat from emissions by the ceramic catalyst support of the first catalytic converter.

The method comprises the steps of: (a) mating respective end portions of flat and corrugated metal strips in such a manner that respective major portions of the strips extend in opposite directions; (b) putting the mated end portions of the strips between two generally flat holding members; (c) winding the major portions of the flat and corrugated metal strips around the holding members overlapping one on another by a predetermined number of times, thereby to produce an oval structure which includes the flat and corrugated metal strips and the holding members; (d) drawing the holding members from the oval structure thereby to provide a semi-processed oval assembly which has two generally flat bores left therein; and (e) pressing the semi-processed oval assembly in a manner to eliminate the bores thereby to provide a tightly wound oval assembly of the flat and corrugated metal strips.
