摘要: A device for rapidly performing a sedimentation-rate test is described. A tube (17) containing a given amount of blood specimen is placed in a holder (13, 21, 22) which rotates (23) the tube (17) a predetermined number of revolutions at a given speed about an axis perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the tube while rotating (24) the tube about its longitudinal axis, to then stop the tube for a given period of time about 60.degree. from the vertical, and to finally turn the tube (17) to the vertical position at a speed which is but a fraction of the first-mentioned speed also while turning the tube about the longitudinal axis. Means (26) are arranged to monitor the rotational movements of the tube, preferably by means of markings on a plug (18) closing the tube end.

摘要: The present invention describes particles of titanium, titanium alloy, at least one type of titanium oxide or a combination thereof, wherein at least a substantial amount of the particles are of micrometer-millimeter size and are non-spherical, for use as an X-ray contrast agent. The irregular shapes and/or internal pores and cavities of said particles lead to a prolonged retention time in the gastrointestinal tract leading to a longer time period available for X-ray examination. Further, the particles are not only chemically inert, they also exhibit an anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial effect on the surrounding tissue.

摘要: The present invention is a cuvette provided with at least two cavities. The first or inlet cavity takes up fluid by capillary action. The second cavity is a reception cavity which communicates with the first cavity through a first channel. The second cavity preferably is constructed and arranged to not exert a capillary action, although it could be constructed to exert a capillary action. The first channel which is in fluid communication with the first cavity and the second cavity exerts a non-capillary and non-spontaneous fluid transporting function that is operative only under an external influence, such as by application of a centrifugal force on the cuvette. The cuvette is well suited for a variety of analyses, particularly upon whole blood.

摘要: A switching device (5) is arranged in a junction element (1), which is to be used in a toy railway and is in the form of a reversible plate. On each flat side, this plate is formed with depressions (2, 2', 2"), which in pairs form an incoming railway track (2) and two outgoing railway tracks (2', 2") extending therefrom. On each flat side, the switching device (5) has a switch plate (6) which is arranged in a recess (7) formed in the respective flat sides and which is pivotable between a first position and a second position, in which it produces a track connection between the incoming railway track (2) and the one or the other of the outgoing railway tracks (2', 2"). The switch plates (6) are interconnected by means of a connecting element (12), which extends through a profile hole (16) in the junction element (1) and which, when the switch plates (6) occupy the first and the second position, engages a first and a second portion (16', 16"), respectively, of a wall delimiting the profile hole (16). The switch plates (6) can be pivoted by axial displacement of an operating rod (17) which, with force fit, extends through a hole (18) in the junction element (1) from the outside thereof into the profile hole (16), where it is connected to the connecting element (12).

摘要: A method for hemoglobin determination is described which includes the steps of introducing a sample of undiluted whole blood by capillary action into a disposable microcuvette having at least one cavity for receiving the sample. The cavity includes a dry essentially non-hygroscopic hemolysing agent, which is dissolved by the blood, hemolyses the red blood cells and releases the haemoglobin contained in the blood cells. A first absorption measurement at a wavelength range 490-520 nm is then performed directly on the sample in the microcuvette, and a second absorption measurement is performed to compensate for background interference.
