Abstract: A wearable device suitable for monitoring blood in a body part may be implemented for instance in oximeters for detecting oxygen level in blood, which operates by contrasting the ratio of transmission of visible red light to transmission of infrared light. The ratio of the amount of absorbed red light to the amount of absorbed infrared light indicates the amount of oxygen in the blood. Therefore, in wearable devices having an oximeter function, there may be an emitter emitting red light to the sensor, and an emitter emitting infrared light to the same sensor which is capable of detecting in both ranges of wavelengths. In this case, the red light emitter and the infrared light emitter take turns to emit light.

In some embodiments the repeated use of sensors with different emitters introduces redundancy into the device so that the device is more robust and may function even in the event that one or two of the emitters and sensors have broken down.

Abstract: An earplug-type earphone is disclosed including: an earplug (10) for producing sound and an elastic support (30). The earplug (10) includes a front housing (200) and a rear housing (500) connected in that order. The elastic support (30) is positioned on an outer side of the rear housing (500). When the earplug (10) is inserted in the external auditory canal, the elastic support (30) is pressed and deformed and then applies resilience to the helix, by which the earplug can be stably positioned in the external auditory canal.

Abstract: A noninvasive light sensor for detecting heart beat signals has a circular support member engageable circumferentially with a body part of a person. There are a plurality of light emitters and light detectors located around a circumference of the circular support member for respectively emitting light signals into different areas of tissue surrounding the body part, and receiving reflected light signals from the different areas of tissue surrounding the body part.

Abstract: A method, and a related device, for obtaining the blood pressure of a person. The method comprising steps of providing a light source (101), and an optical sensor (103) configured to detect light from the light source which has propagated through the wrist of a wearer of the device. The amount of light propagating through the wrist depends on the amount of blood in the wrist. Blood pressure is then observed by monitoring the difference in the amplitude of blood pulsation within the wrist when the wrist is lifted above heart level, and when the wrist is lowered below heart level.
