    摘要: A rubber formulation with good wet traction properties includes one or more elastomers and at least two types of particulate filler materials including at least one of which has a relatively high free surface energy in water (i.e., a supplemental filler). The formulation containing the supplemental filler(s) can provide a vulcanizate that has a British pendulum (skid) number that is at least ˜5% greater than that of a vulcanizate made from an essentially identical formulation that does not contain the supplemental filler(s). Also provided is a method for providing such a formulation which involves identifying one or more supplemental fillers having relatively high free surface energies in water, replacing at least 15% (by wt.) of one or more of the conventional particulate fillers in the formulation with an approximately equivalent volume of supplemental filler particles, and providing the modified formulation.

    摘要: A process for polymerizing 1,3-butadiene into syndiotactic 1,2-polybutadiene is described using a catalyst system comprising (a) a chromium-containing compound, (b) an organoaluminum hydride, and (c) a hydrogen phosphite. The use of the catalyst system avoids the use of environmentally detrimental components such as carbon disulfide and halogenated solvents. The syndiotactic 1,2-polybutadiene can be used as a plastic or as an additive for rubber compositions wherein it can crosslink with conventional rubbers using conventional crosslinking agents.

    摘要: A method for determining the styrene microblock content of a copolymer sample, the method comprising: (i) pyrolyzing the copolymer sample to form polymer fragments of the polymer sample; (ii) analyzing the fragments to determine the relative amounts of styrene monomer fragments, styrene dimer fragments, and styrene trimer fragments, where the relative amounts of the fragments include the amount of any given fragment relative to the total of the monomer fragments, dimer fragments, and trimer fragments; and (iii) using the relative amounts of the styrene monomer fragments, styrene dimer fragments, and styrene trimer fragments to predict the polystyrene microblock content from a mathematical model that is based upon the relative styrene monomer fragments, relative styrene dimer fragments, relative styrene trimer fragments, and microblock content of a copolymer having known microblock content.
