摘要: A glass panel for a cathode ray tube comprises a substantially rectangular face portion on which images are displayed and a skirt portion continuous to the face portion through a blend R portion. An effective screen size of the face portion in a diagonal direction is 500 mm or more, an average radius of curvature of an outer surface of the face portion is 10000 mm or more in all radial directions from a face center portion, and a difference in height between the face center portion and an edge portion of the effective screen in the diagonal direction on an inner surface of the face portion is in a range from 9 mm to 17 mm.

摘要: A radiation shielding glass consisting esentially of 40.0% to 60.0% SiO.sub.2, 25.0% to 45.0% of PbO, 1.5% to 2.0% CeO.sub.2, 4.5% to 12.0% Na.sub.2 O, 2.0% to 9.0% K.sub.2 O, 0% to 5.0% B.sub.2 O.sub.3, and 0% to 10.0% BaO, Na.sub.2 O/(Na.sub.2 O+K.sub.2 O) being 0.5 to 0.8. The glass has a high radiation shielding capacity and is excellent in a resistance to browning by the gamma ray irradiation and an improved dielectric breakdown. The glass is useful for a window glass of an irradiation room of the gamma ray.

摘要: A plasma display unit comprises a pair of substrate glasses, discharge electrodes formed on inner surfaces of the substrate glasses, and a fluorescent member disposed between the substrate glasses for emitting light in response to the discharge of the electrode. Each substrate glass used in the plasma display unit essentially consists by weight of 50-65% SiO.sub.2, 2-15% Al.sub.2 O.sub.3, 0-4% MgO, 0-2.9% CaO, 2-13% SrO, 0.5-13% BaO, 10-27% MgO+CaO+SrO+BaO, 0-1% Li.sub.2 O, 2-10% Na.sub.2 O, 2-13% K.sub.2 O, 7-15% Li.sub.2 +Na.sub.2 O+K.sub.2 O, 1-9% ZrO.sub.2, 0-5% TiO.sub.2, 0-1% Sb.sub.2 O.sub.3, and 0-1% As.sub.2 O.sub.3. The substrate glass exhibits small thermal contraction even if subjected to heat treatment at a temperature of 570.degree. C. or more, has a coefficient of thermal expansion of 75-95.times.10.sup.-7 /.degree. C., and is high in volume resistivity and excellent in chemical durability as compared with a soda lime glass.

摘要: A mold for manufacturing silicone contact lenses is provided. The mold comprises a male section and a female section plated with chromium or nickel which when joined together come into contact with each other only at a portion at which the mold surface of one section becomes continuous with that of the other section to define a cavity therebetween. The contact between both sections is not in a flat-to-flat fashion but in a line or edge-to-edge fashion so that a contact lens whose surface and edge are completely freed from flashes or irregularities can be obtained. Further, with the use of chromium or nickel plated mold of the present invention, a contact lens of excellent quality can be obtained from a silicone resin which is affinitive to chromium and nickel.

摘要: In a reflector (10) including a mirror base member (11) having a concave surface, a reflecting film (12) is formed on the concave surface. For preventing the fragments of the broken lamp from flying forward, a protective glass plate (13) is attached to the mirror base member. At least one of the mirror base member and the protective glass plate is made of a glass member whose mechanical strength is enhanced. The mechanical strength of the glass member may be enhanced by ion exchange.

摘要: In a cathode ray tube us a glass panel having a difference in thickness between a central region and a peripheral region of a face portion, the glass panel having an outer surface with a colored film formed thereon, the colored film being thin in film thickness in an area corresponding to a thick part of the face portion of the glass panel and thick in film thickness in an area corresponding to a thin part of the face portion of the glass panel so as to reduce the difference in transmittance resulting from the difference in thickness between the central region and the peripheral region of the face portion of the glass panel. As another embodiment, the colored film comprises a film having a light color tone in an area corresponding to a thick part of the face portion of the glass panel and a dark color tone in an area corresponding to a thin part of the face portion of the glass panel.
