Abstract: Image sensor modules include primary high-resolution imagers and secondary imagers. For example, an image sensor module may include a semiconductor chip including photosensitive regions defining, respectively, a primary camera and a secondary camera. The image sensor module may include an optical assembly that does not substantially obstruct the field-of-view of the secondary camera. Some modules include multiple secondary cameras that have a field-of-view at least as large as the field-of-view of the primary camera. Various features are described to facilitate acquisition of signals that can be used to calculate depth information.

Abstract: An optical sensor module uses polarized light such that, in some instances, crosstalk effects caused by light reflected from a cover glass or from a thin smudge layer on the cover glass can be eliminated, or at least reduced, by directing light of a first polarization through the cover glass toward a target and selectively detecting, in the module, light of a second polarization that is orthogonal to the first polarization.

Abstract: Optical encoding systems include a generalized cylindrical code scale having one or more regions with different light reflective properties. In an example process, a code scale can be created by coating an elongated generalized cylinder with one or more different layers of materials having different light reflective properties. Portions of these layers can be removed selectively in order to expose a particular overlying material and create a particular pattern of features having different optical characteristics (e.g., absorbing, specularly reflecting, diffusely reflecting).

A method includes emitting light out of a module, receiving signals from light detectors in the module, wherein the signals represent, at least in part, light reflected by a person's finger or other object passing in front of the light detectors, detecting movement of the person's finger or other object based on the received signals, and controlling a feature of a device in response to the detected movement.

Abstract: Light-emitting optoelectronic modules operable to generate an emission characterized by reduced speckle can include a coherent light source, a diffuser, and a Fresnel element. The coherent light source is operable to generate a coherent emission, characterized by a coherence length, incident on the diffuser. The diffuser is characterized by a divergence angle. The divergence angle is the angle between a first path-length from the diffuser to a Fresnel element and a second path-length from the diffuser to the Fresnel element, wherein their difference defines a path difference. In some instances, the path difference is substantially larger than the coherence length.

Abstract: An optoelectronic module that includes a reflectance member which exhibits mitigated or eliminated fan-out field-of-view overlap can be concealed or its visual impact minimized compared to a host device in which the optoelectronic module is mounted. In some instances, the reflectance member can be implemented as a plurality of through holes and in other instances the reflectance member may be a contiguous spin-coated polymeric coating. In general, the reflectance member can be diffusively reflective to the same particular wavelengths or ranges of wavelengths as the host device in which it is mounted.
