摘要: One can enrich nucleic acid (RNA or DNA) from within a complex mixture in a sequence-specific manner by using a mutant of a Cas enzyme lacking nuclease activity, for example a mutant of Cas13a (dCas) from Leptotrichia wadeii. The nucleic acid is bound by the mutant protein as directed by guide RNA molecules (crRNA) and purified after association with an appropriate surface, such as quantum dots or functionalized beads. The nucleic acid is separated from the Cas and purified after precipitation or interaction with another surface. The resulting product can be directly processed via long-read sequencing.

摘要: Tunable thermochromic materials comprise a metal salt with a varying proportion of two different anions and an organic ligand. Partial substitution via doping during the initial synthesis with a macro-structurally similar (generating an isostructural material) yet chemically different anion creates a material with altered thermochromic properties. For example, in bromide-doped bis(N,N′-diethylethylenediamine)nickel(II)) tetrafluoroborate; both the tetrafluoroborate (BF4-) and bromide (Br—) derivatives are isostructural. Substitution of BF4- for Br— causes a decrease in the materials' thermochromic transition temperature by approximately 10° C.

摘要: An apparatus includes a spectrometer receiving an optical input signal that includes an input optical spectrum. The spectrometer includes a fiber laser cavity pumped by a first optical replica of the optical input signal that generates stimulated Brillouin scattering traveling in a direction opposite to a direction of the optical input signal. The first optical replica of the optical input signal excites at least one lasing mode in the fiber laser cavity. The at least one lasing mode respectively includes at least one lasing mode frequency. The at least one lasing mode frequency is onset by a respective Brillouin frequency shift from the respective at least one input frequency. The spectrometer also includes an optical heterodyne receiver. The optical heterodyne receiver generates the electrical output signal. The spectrometer outputs a measurement of the input optical spectrum based on the respective Brillouin frequency shift and the at least one input frequency.

摘要: A technique for selective-area diffusion doping of III-N epitaxial material layers and for fabricating power device structures utilizing this technique. Dopant species such as Mg are introduced into the III-N material layer and are diffused into the III-N material by annealing under stable or metastable conditions. The dopant species can be introduced via deposition of a metal or alloy layer containing such species using sputtering, e-beam evaporation or other technique known to those skilled in the art. The dopant material layer is capped with a thermally stable layer to prevent decomposition and out-diffusion, and then is annealed under stable or metastable conditions to diffuse the dopant into the III-N material GaN without decomposing the surface.
