摘要: This invention is directed to a method for purifying argon from an impure argon stream. If the oxygen concentration in the impure argon is less than about 10 mole percent of oxygen, the invention is proceeded in the sequential steps of a) removing chlorine from the impure argon stream; b) adding hydrogen to the impure argon stream; c) removing carbon dioxide and water from the impure argon stream; d) removing hydrogen from the impure argon stream; and e) removing nitrogen from the impure argon stream to form a purified argon stream. If the oxygen concentration in the impure argon is greater than about 10 mole percent of oxygen, the method comprises the sequential steps of a) removing chlorine from the impure argon stream; b) removing carbon dioxide and water from the impure argon stream; c) removing nitrogen and oxygen from the impure argon stream; d) adding hydrogen to the impure argon stream; e) removing water from the impure argon stream; f) removing hydrogen from the impure argon stream; and g) removing nitrogen from the impure argon stream to form a purified stream.

摘要: A process for removing the impurities carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, water vapor and, optionally, hydrogen from a feed stream comprising initially removing water and carbon dioxide, oxidizing carbon monoxide and hydrogen to form carbon dioxide and water vapor, respectively, and removing the oxidation products. The process may be conducted batchwise or continuously by carrying out purification in a plurality of treatment zones wherein one or more zones are being regenerated while one or more others are purifying the feed stream.

摘要: Nitrogen is economically recovered from the flue gas evolved in a hydrocarbon steam reforming furnace by hydrogenation of free oxygen therein and removal of carbon dioxide and other minor impurities from the flue gas by pressure swing adsorption with recovery of high purity nitrogen as unsorbed effluent. The process is utilized to highest advantage in the production of ammonia syngas wherein natural gas or other hydrocarbon feed is subjected to steam reforming in a fuel-fired furnace. The nitrogen obtained by purification of the flue gas is combined with the purified hydrogen separated from the reformate providing the syngas for conversion to ammonia. In a preferred embodiment, the steam reforming is carried out in two stages, the first stage being performed in a conventional fuel-fired steam reforming furnace to which a major portion of the fresh hydrocarbon feed is charged. The hot effluent from this first reforming stage is employed as the heating medium to support reforming of the remaining minor portion of the fresh feed by heat exchange therewith.

摘要: A process for purifying argon to obtain a high-purity argon from argon gas containing at least nitrogen, carbon monoxide, oxygen, and methane, including a first step of adding air or oxygen to the argon gas in an amount sufficient to oxidize the contained carbon monoxide into carbon dioxide in the presence of a catalyst while maintaining a temperature sufficient to oxidize the contained carbon monoxide without substantially oxidizing the methane, a second step of adding hydrogen into the argon gas obtained in the first step and reacting the contained oxygen with the hydrogen into water in the presence of a catalyst, a third step of removing the carbon dioxide and the water from the argon gas obtained in the second step by use of an adsorbent, and a fourth step of cooling the argon gas obtained in the third step, introducing the argon thus cooled into a distillation column and performing distillation by use of a reflux containing argon as a main component to remove nitrogen, hydrogen, and methane, thereby recovering a high purity argon gas.

摘要: On-site membrane systems are used for air separation to produce a low purity nitrogen stream and for purifying impure hydrogen, the nitrogen and hydrogen being passed to a catalytic combustion system in which the oxygen content of the nitrogen stream is reacted with said hydrogen to reduce the residual oxygen content of the nitrogen in a final purification operation to produce high purity nitrogen. Pressure swing adsorption systems can be employed in place of the membrane systems for particular applications, and a cryogenic system can be employed for said hydrogen purification.

摘要: A mixture of noble gases having desirable insulative properties for use as a window fill gas is derived from an air separation process without substantial further separation or concentration of the noble gases in the mixtures. The mixture of noble gases is processed to form the fill gas using relatively economical catalytic oxidation processes and drying techniques to provide a suitable fill gas. The processed noble gas or fill gas may contain from about 89 to 95% krypton, 5 to 8% xenon and 0.5 to 2% contaminants including oxygen, nitrogen, hydrocarbons and other constituents typically found in air separation processing.
