摘要： The present invention relates to a modified colorant comprising a colorant having attached at least one organic group. Various embodiments of the organic group are disclosed. For each of these embodiments, preferably the organic group has a defined calcium index value. Also disclosed are various uses for these modified colorants, including inkjet ink compositions.

摘要： A method of modifying a pigment that includes reacting a reactive compound having an X—[Y]n reactive group with a secondary compound N—S—ZM to form a substituted reactive intermediate [Y]a—X—(N—S—ZM)b. A pigment is reacted with the substituted reactive intermediate [Y]a—X—(N—S—ZM)b to attach the substituted reactive intermediate to the surface of the pigment to form a surface modified pigment. X may be a sulfonyl, phosphoryl, or 1,3,5-triazinyl group, Y may be a halogen leaving group, N may be a basic nucleophilic group, S may be an organic group, and ZM may be an ionizable end group. Also, n is an integer between 1 and 3, b is an integer between 1 and 3, and a=n−b. When n is equal to or greater than b, and if b is 2 or 3, each. N—S—ZM can be the same or different.

摘要： Various modified pigment products are described which are preferably capable of being dispersed in a variety of materials such as coatings, inks, toners, films, plastics, polymers, elastomers, and the like. The modified pigments are pigments having attached groups, such as polymeric groups, onto the pigment by means other than adsorption. A modified pigment product is described comprising a pigment having attached at least one group comprising the formula: —X-[NIon]pR wherein X comprises an aromatic group or an alkyl group, NIon comprises at least one type of non-ionic group, R represents hydrogen or comprises an aromatic group or an alkyl group, and p represents an integer of from 1 to 500. Modified pigment products are also described comprising a pigment having attached at least one alkylene oxide group or at least one polymeric group. In addition, other types of modified pigment products are described as well as their incorporation into inks, coatings, toners, films, plastics, polymers, elastomers, and the like. Methods of making the modified pigment products are also described.

摘要： In electrophoretic media, it is advantageous to use pigment particles having about 1 to 15 per cent by weight of a polymer chemically bonded to, or cross-linked around, the pigment particles. The polymer desirably has a branched chain structure with side chains extending from a main chain. Charged or chargeable groups can be incorporated into the polymer or can be bonded to the particles separately from the polymer. The polymer-coated particles can be prepared by first attaching a polymerizable or polymerization-initiating group to the particle and then reacting the particle with one or more polymerizable monomers or oligomers.

摘要： High tinctorial strength, easily dispersible perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboximides and N,N'-dialkylperylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboximides are produced by introducing a finely ground crude pigment whose primary particle size is not more than 0.05 micron into a primary aliphatic or aromatic amine, into a heterocyclic base, into an aliphatic carboxamide, into a mixture thereof, or into from 75 to 84% by weight sulfuric acid and converting it into pigmentary form at a temperature of from ambient temperature to 160.degree.C. The products are easily dispersible pigments of high tinctorial strength.

摘要： A process for the manufacture of deep-shade perylene-3,4,9,10tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride pigments, wherein finely ground crude pigment of which the average primary particle size is from 0.01 to 1 Mu is treated with a primary or tertiary aromatic amine which is liquid at the treatment temperature, or with a strongly polar aprotic solvent, as swelling agent, until the pigment has acquired the optimum color strength. After removal of the swelling agent, a deep-shade, pure pigment is obtained, which is suitable for all pigmentation purposes.

摘要： The present invention relates to a method of preparing a polymer modified pigment comprising the steps of, combining, in any order, a modified pigment comprising a pigment having attached at least one reactive group, a polymer comprising at least one functional group, and a non-reactive diluent, to form a reaction mixture, reacting the polymer and the modified pigment in the reaction mixture to form a mixture comprising the polymer modified pigment and the non-reactive diluent; and removing the non-reactive diluent from the mixture to form the polymer modified pigment. Also disclosed are the resulting polymer modified pigments and inkjet ink compositions comprising them.
