Abstract: Processes for the production of coke, and one or more volatile products comprise the steps of: (i) providing a purified coal product (PCP), wherein the PCP is in particulate form, and wherein at least about 90% v of the particles are no greater than about 100 μm in diameter; wherein the PCP has an ash content of less than about 10% m and a water content of less than around 5% m; (ii) combining the PCP with a liquid residue oil to create a combined solid-liquid blend, wherein the solid-liquid blend comprises at least around 0.1% m and at most around 30% m PCP; (iii) subjecting the solid-liquid blend to a temperature in excess of 375° C. for a time period sufficient to induce cracking of at least 1% of the PCP particles to generate the one or more volatile products, and (iv) producing coke from the product of step (iii).

Abstract: An integrated process and associated system for conversion of crude oil to value added petrochemicals. The process includes separating crude oil into light and heavy crude fractions and processing the heavy fraction in a solvent deasphalting unit and a delayed coker unit, and then providing the light fraction and selected effluents of the solvent deasphalting unit and the delayed coker unit to a hydrotreater. The process further includes separating the effluent of the hydrotreater to generate a C1 fraction passed to a methane cracker, a C2 fraction passed to an ethane steam cracker, a C3-C4 fraction passed to a dehydrogenation reactor, a hydrotreated light fraction passed to an aromatization unit, and a hydrotreated heavy fraction passed to a steam enhanced catalytic cracking unit. The process further includes separating effluents of the various unit operations into product streams including a BTX stream and a light olefin stream.

Abstract: A process for reducing coke and coke precursor formation in supercritical water may include producing a supercritical water stream by heating and pressurizing a feed water, mixing the supercritical water stream with heated pressurized feed oil in a mixing device, to create a combined feed stream, feeding the combined feed stream into a supercritical water reactor to produce an upgraded product producing a cooled depressurized upgraded product, separating the cool depressurized product in a fractionator into a liquid hydrocarbon stream and a hydrocarbon vapor stream, condensing the hydrocarbon vapor stream with a cooling device to produce a light hydrocarbon water mixture and a separate gas product, recycling the light hydrocarbon mixture to mix with the feed water upstream of the supercritical reactor.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a sequential thermo-chemical treatment along with adsorption-based pre-treatment process for residual oils having a very high naphthenic acid content. First stage of the process is a thermal pre-treatment step which results into generation of hydrocarbon stream with a reduced naphthenic acid content due to high temperature. In second stage of pre-treatment, generated hydrocarbon stream from stage-1 is subjected to esterification reaction with alcohol, such as methanol, to further reduce the TAN of hydrocarbon stream. After recovery of alcohol from the reaction mixture, depending on TAN reduction required reaction mixture may be subjected to an adsorption stage, third stage pre-treatment, where an adsorbent mixture comprising of FCC spent catalyst is used to adsorb the TAN of feed hydrocarbon stream. The treated hydrocarbon stream is then co-processed with DCU feed stock for producing lighter hydrocarbons.

Particularly, in another embodiment, the present invention relates to a coke reducing additive composition capable of simultaneously (a) reducing formation of coke deposits on walls of the processing unit; and (b) reducing fouling caused due to deposits of coke products on walls of the processing unit during pyrolysis of a feedstock in the presence of a plastic material, wherein the feedstock is a vacuum residue (VR), plastic material is a waste plastic material or an olefin polymer (OP) material, or a mixture thereof, and the coke reducing additive composition comprises a naphthenate, preferably a calcium naphthenate, or sodium naphthenate, or a mixture thereof, and to a method of employing the coke reducing additive composition, and to a method of use of the coke reducing additive composition of the present invention.
Particularly, in yet another embodiment, the present invention relates to a method to convert a waste plastic into useful chemical commodity.-

Abstract: A process and apparatus for improving the production of coke having a high volatile combustible material content are disclosed. The process may include, for example: heating a coker feedstock to a coking temperature to produce a heated coker feedstock; contacting the heated coker feedstock with a quench medium to reduce a temperature of the heated coker feedstock and produce a quenched feedstock; feeding the quenched feedstock to a coking drum; subjecting the quenched feedstock to thermal cracking in the coking drum to (a) crack a portion of the quenched feedstock to produce a cracked vapor product, and (b) produce a coke product having a volatile combustible material (VCM) concentration in the range from about 13% to about 50% by weight, as measured by ASTM D3175.
