    摘要: The present invention concerns a device and method for selectively or simultaneously measuring shear strength and pore water pressure of a soil in the field. The device includes a rod adapted to be at least partially inserted into the soil and rotated. The rod has a soil engaging portion and an opposed coupling portion configured to be coupled to a torque applying machine or device. The device further includes at least one vane blade extending at least partially along and from the soil engaging portion of the rod for shearing the soil when rotated together with the rod. At plurality of pore water pressure sensors are operatively associated with at least one of the soil engaging portion and the at least one vane blade. The sensors are configured to sense pressure indicative of the pore water pressure of the soil while the at least one vane blade shears the soil.

    摘要: The expandable jacket and flexible ring comprises of the segmented circular arch shaped plates and bands or rings around the segmented plates. The test preparation consists of a membrane surrounding a specimen with or without a filter, segmented plates surrounding the membrane, and bands or rings around the segmented plates to permit uniform radial expansion of the specimen through its height when increments of vertical load are applied during the test, thereby providing accurate values of area of cross-section, deviator stress, volume change, modulus of elasticity, Poisson's ratio and shear strength. Using the flexible ring, three-dimensional consolidation tests are performed to determine three-dimensional coefficient of consolidation and coefficients of consolidation in horizontal and vertical directions. Removable attachments are used for assembling the expandable jacket and flexible ring during the test. A calibration device is used to determine the modulus of elasticity of the membrane and expandable jacket and flexible ring.

    摘要: A soil moisture mapping based method for transferring soil for an earthworks construction project includes outputting signals based on soil moisture data and position data indicative of a location within a cut area or a fill area of the soil. The method further includes selecting a location within a cut area for obtaining fill soil or a location within a fill area for depositing fill soil based on the signals. A system for supplying soil for an earthworks construction project includes at least one machine having a sensor configured to sense soil moisture, and a receiver configured to receive position data corresponding with a location of the soil, and a signaling device configured to output signals based on the position data and soil moisture data. A transfer machine is included in the system and configured to selectively transfer fill soil between the cut area and the fill area based on the signals.

    摘要: A pressure plate extractor for testing of soils and other porous solids has a pressure chamber defined by pressure chamber sidewalls resting above a pressure chamber base. A drain plate is situated on the pressure chamber base with its bounding edge surrounded by a seal and situated inwardly from the pressure chamber sidewalls, which rest atop the seal. When the pressure chamber sidewalls are urged towards the pressure chamber base, thereby compressing the seal and preventing air from passing between the pressure chamber sidewalls and pressure chamber base, the seal laterally expands to firmly engage the bounding edge of the drain plate, thereby preventing air from passing between the pressure chamber sidewalls and the drain plate. A substantially leak-free pressure chamber results, with low probability of drain plate failure because the pressure chamber sidewalls do not bear directly upon it.
