Abstract:
A lifter rotation preventing structure includes a lifter body, a retainer and a biasing member. The lifter body is inserted into a sliding hole of a housing and reciprocated according to rotation of a cam. The lifter body has a peripheral wall slidable in a sliding hole and a partition wall partitioning an inside of the peripheral wall into a first space where the cam is located and a second space located opposite the first space. The retainer has a retainer body connected to an engaging member and a rotation preventing protrusion protruding from an outer periphery of the retainer body and fittingly extending through the peripheral wall. The rotation preventing protrusion has a distal end moved into a rotation preventing groove to prevent the lifter body from rotation. The biasing member interposed between the retainer body and the housing to bias the lifter body to the cam side.
Abstract:
A variable valve lift apparatus operated to change lift of a valve provided to an engine may include an outer body having an inside space formed therein, an inner body arranged in the inside space of the outer body, the inner body being selectively secured to the outer body to make a lever motion centered on a lever motion pivot shaft together with the outer body as a cam rotates, a connection shaft arranged to pass through the first end of the outer body and the first end of the inner body to connect the outer body to the inner body, a lost motion spring provided to return the inner body rotated relative to the outer body centered on the connection shaft to an original position, and a latching device provided to the outer body for selectively securing the inner body to the outer body.
Abstract:
A desmodromic valve and cam system is provided which is adapted to be installed into an internal combustion pushrod engine. The system includes a camshaft assembly having a plurality of removably attached cam lobes installed onto a main camshaft; a valve connector assembly installed onto a distal tip of each valve; a rocker having a valve movement end mechanically linked to a respective valve connector and a pushrod connecting end mechanically linked to an upper distal end of a pushrod; a hydraulic lifter follower assembly assigned to each valve which includes a pin disposed on a distal end thereof which is adapted to engage and track a follower groove formed on each respective cam lobe; and a pushrod assigned for each valve, each pushrod having lower distal end mechanically linked to a respective hydraulic follower lifter. The configuration of the aforementioned system eliminates the need to use valve springs to return the valves to a closed position, thereby, increasing horsepower and fuel efficiency, while simultaneously reducing emissions.
Abstract:
Aspects of the present disclosure are directed to an internal combustion engine having a valve actuation device and at least one first exhaust valve and one second exhaust valve per cylinder. The first and second exhaust valves may be actuated together in at least one operating area of the internal combustion engine, via an exhaust valve bridge and a first valve lifter, by a first cam lobe of a first exhaust cam arranged on a camshaft. The camshaft having a second exhaust cam with at least one additional cam lobe and at least one second cam lobe A transmission device being arranged in the functional path between the second exhaust cam and the second exhaust valve, the transmission device allowing an idle stroke to be activated or deactivated. The first exhaust cam and the second exhaust cam are configured and arranged to be rotatable relative to one another.
Abstract:
An internal combustion engine includes a cylinder head, a poppet valve having a seat within the cylinder head, a cam shaft on which is mounted an eccentrically shaped cam, and a rocker arm assembly comprising a rocker arm, a cam follower, and an electromagnetically actuated lash adjuster. The lash adjuster provides a continuously variable length fulcrum for the rocker arm. The actuator may be a piezoelectric stepper motor. The lash adjuster may be operative to vary a rate of internal exhaust gas recirculation and without requiring crank angle data.
Abstract:
An adjusting device for adjusting valve clearance of a charge-cycle valve of an internal combustion machine is provided. The adjusting device includes a pivoted rocker lever, at one end of which an actuation element is positioned configured to transfer a force to the charge-cycle valve. A transmission element is attached to the actuation element at an opposite end to the charge-cycle valve of which a sleeve area is positioned, which is used to support the transmission element regarding the actuation element. A method for adjusting valve clearance of a charge-cycle valve of an internal combustion machine using an adjusting device is also provided.

Abstract:
A cam follower for operable attachment to a valve lifter assembly for use with a variable cam lobe camshaft in a variable valve timing system includes a housing with a central cavity and a mushroom head with a stem pivotably connected to the housing in the central cavity, the mushroom head having a radiused surface for contacting a cam lobe surface. The cam follower is used in combination with a variable cam surface of an axially displaceable camshaft to obtain improvements in idling speed and volumetric efficiency.
Abstract:
The variable valve actuating device (20) comprises a valve lifter (24) interposed between a swing end of a rocker arm 22 and a stem end of an engine valve (17), and a switch pin (53) slidably received in the valve lifter (24) so as to selectively abut the end surface of the valve stem as the valve lifter is actuated by a cam (21a). The swing end of the rocker arm abuts an upper end of a projection (55) projecting from the upper end of the valve lifter via an engagement feature (26b, 55a) that prevents a rotational movement of the valve lifter relative to the swing end around the axial line of the valve stem.
