摘要: Pumping cartridges useful for medical and surgical pumping and infusion procedures are disclosed. Methods for manufacturing and utilizing such pumping cartridges and methods for pumping or infusing liquids for delivery to the body of a patient or a surgical or medical instrument for performing a medical treatment are also described. The invention includes, in one aspect, a series of pumping cartridges comprising cylinders and pistons constructed and arranged for sliding or reciprocating motion within the cylinders. The pistons and/or cylinders can comprise a sealing component including a circumferential, flared sealing flange and can be configured to enable the pumping cartridge to generate high liquid pumping pressures, for example above 1,000 psig. Many of the pumping cartridges disclosed can be relatively easily manufactured at a low cost per unit and can be configured to be detachable from a pump drive unit and disposable after a single use. Various compact flow path configurations are provided in the several pumping cartridge embodiments described, including a Y-shaped configuration, a T-shaped configuration, and an axial configuration. Some pumping cartridges disclosed include pistons including or at least partially forming a valve and/or pistons that are relatively movable with respect to a piston rod to which they are connected. Valve including a valve seat and a movable sealing element able to create a seal capable of withstanding differences in fluid pressures thereacross of at least about 1,000 psi, and in some cases up to in excess of 10,000 psi, without substantial fluid leakage therethrough are disclosed. In some of the disclosed valves, the movable sealing element is concave in shape, and can be curved, to create a mechanical advantage for improved sealing performance. Methods for manufacturing axially-configured pumping cartridges from thin-walled tubing are also disclosed, as well as a series of methods for pumping or infusing a liquid for delivery to the body of a patient or a surgical or medical instrument for performing a medical treatment using the above-mentioned pumping cartridges and devices.

摘要: A single-piece piston for use in a pneumatically-activated pump to meter a predetermined amount of lubricant or other liquid. The piston has a grooved end that includes a head portion and a circumferentially-disposed angled channel for containing a sealing member such as an O-ring. An adjacent stem section includes a longitudinally-disposed channel that is in fluid-flow connection with the angled channel. The piston is disposed within a chamber of the body of the pump. Lateral movement of the piston within the body causes the sealing member to shift and block and unblock the end of the longitudinal channel which allows liquid from a liquid chamber to flow into a slot and to a pump chamber adjacent to the head of the piston's grooved end. The piston operates in association with an assembly for regulating the amount of liquid metered by the pump, a valve assembly for evacuating the liquid from the pump chamber into and through an outlet fitting, and a mechanism for regulating the flow of air into the outlet fitting to atomize the liquid.

摘要: A pen plotter includes a means for applying pressurized air to the ink reservoir supplying the pen with ink. A pressure sensor associated with the pressurized air space provides an out-of-ink signal when the reservoir and pen become empty and the air pressure becomes lost due to air leakage through the pen. The plotter may be one in which a web of paper is intermittently advanced to bring fresh portions of the web to a support surface cooperating with the pen, and in which a pump is used to supply the pressurized air. The pump is driven by the same motor as drives the means for advancing the paper so that the pump is operated only during paper advancements. The pump is of a simple low cost construction and is adjustable to vary the pressure maintained in the ink reservoir.

摘要: A manually operative atomizer in which a liquid is sucked and pressurized by an atomizer means and is then atomized through a nozzle port. A chamber for pressurizing the liquid is constituted by a cylinder, while an atomizer head is connected to a communication pipe which plays also the role of a piston, and is biased in the direction reverse of the pressurizing direction, by means of a spring. The atomizer head is provided with a guiding member adapted to be pressed and moved by an inclined surface of the operation member, so that the atomizer head and the piston or the jetting pipe are moved in the pressurizing direction. As the operation member is released from the depressing force, the spring moves the member back to its original position. Portions of the periphery of the atomizer head other than the nozzle port and the operating portion of the operating member are covered by a cap.

摘要: A high pressure pumping apparatus which incorporates a chamber adapted to be filled with a fluid to be pumped, a solid, nonyieldable reciprocating member and an opposing nonyieldable member. A resilient plug having a dished out portion is captured between the two members. The dished out portion is contacted and seals to define a closed chamber at the dished portion which chamber reduces in size as the nonyieldable members are relatively moved. A small passage communicates with the dished out chamber in the resilient member to draw fluid therefrom through a check valve mechanism. The apparatus is particularly able to pump extremely small controlled volumes of fluid at very high pressures. A first version thereof supports the resilient member on a solid piston rod which moves toward a fixed metal member. A second version utilizes a diaphragm motor and also discloses an exposed push rod which gives an external indication of operation of the equipment. A third embodiment positions the check valve struture in a solid push rod which travels toward the resilient member which is held against the solid member. A control system is defined responsive to temperature and pressure.
