Embodiments of the invention provide a water-cooled column formed by side walls connected together to define an enclosed space, each side wall is formed of a water-cooled membrane wall, a working medium is passed through a tube of the water-cooled membrane wall from bottom to top, the water-cooled column comprising: a lower part having a cross section reduced segment, which has a cross section gradually reduced in a direction from bottom to top; and an upper part, wherein the upper part connects with the cross section reduced segment at a connection position, and a cross sectional area of the cross section reduced segment at the connection position is identical to a cross sectional area of the upper part at the connection position. Embodiments of the invention also provide a furnace for defining a reaction space, which comprises a water-cooled column defined as above disposed along a vertical direction therein.

Provided is a boiler structure that allows for appropriate flow-rate distribution for each furnace wall by using a simple configuration without any moving parts in a wide thermal-load range of a furnace from a partial load to a rated load. In a boiler structure having a furnace water-wall formed of multiple boiler evaporation tubes and configured to generate steam by heating water inside the furnace when the water that is pressure-fed to the boiler evaporation tubes flows inside the tubes, the boiler structure includes a pressure-loss adjusting section, for an internal fluid, provided in an outlet connection tube that connects outlets of water walls obtained by dividing the furnace water-wall into multiple parts.

A method of assembling a radiant cooler includes providing a vessel shell that defines a gas flow passage therein that extends generally axially through the vessel shell, forming a tube cage from coupling a plurality of cooling tubes together to form a tube cage defined by a plurality of chevron-shaped projections that extend circumferentially about a center axis of the tube cage, each chevron-shaped projection includes a first side and a second side coupled together a tip, circumferentially-adjacent pairs of projections coupled together such that a valley is defined between each pair of circumferentially-spaced projections, each of the projection tips is positioned radially outward from each of the valleys, and orienting the tube cage within the vessel shell such that the tube cage is in flow communication with the flow passage.

The erosion-prone sections of the tubes in a circulating fluidized bed boiler are provided with a locally thickened sidewall without forming discontinuities on the outer surface of the tubes. This can be accomplished, for example, by replacing the erosion prone portion of the tube with a section having a smaller inside diameter, but the same outside diameter, or by replacing the erosion prone portion of the tube with a section having a thicker sidewall, but the same inside diameter, and smoothing over the outside discontinuity with an alloy coating. A useful alloy coating is also disclosed which can be used for this and other applications.

The steam generator has a combustion chamber having a peripheral wall formed at least partially from gas-proof, welded steam generator pipes, at least two additional inner walls formed at least partially from additional steam generator pipes which are arranged inside the combustion chamber. The inner walls are connected one behind the other on the flow medium side by an intermediate collector. The steam generator has a high service life and is reliable. The flow medium on the inlet of the inner wall upstream of the intermediate collector has a lower temperature than that of the flow medium on an inlet of the peripheral wall.

A solar power generation system includes a solar receiver disposed on a tower that receives radiant heat reflected from a field of solar collectors. The solar receiver includes an evaporator having a plurality of vertically oriented tubes to form a panel for receiving a fluid, such as water and/or steam, wherein the tubes have a rifled internal surface. The fluid within the tubes has a mass flow greater than 0.2×106 lb/hr/ft3 at a pressure in the range of 100-2850 psia, wherein radiant heat fluxes on the outside of the tubes exceed 185,00 but/hr/ft2.

The erosion-prone sections of the tubes in a circulating fluidized bed boiler are provided with a locally thickened sidewall without forming discontinuities on the outer surface of the tubes. This can be accomplished, for example, by replacing the erosion prone portion of the tube with a section having a smaller inside diameter, but the same outside diameter, or by replacing the erosion prone portion of the tube with a section having a thicker sidewall, but the same inside diameter, and smoothing over the outside discontinuity with an alloy coating. A useful alloy coating is also disclosed which can be used for this and other applications.
