    摘要: A radon detector including a base portion, a cover portion, and a shield arrangement. The cover portion attached to the base portion houses a contained gas volume and allows diffusion of gas between a surrounding into the contained gas volume. The base portion has at least two detector location areas, enabling mechanical arranging of nuclear track detector means. The shield arrangement includes at least one shield and a shield actuator arranged for moving the shield between a closed and an open position, for each of the detector location areas. Thereby, the shield in the closed position prevents a line-of-sight between the contained gas volume and the detector location area. The shield in the open position allows a line-of-sight between the contained gas volume and the detector location area. The shield actuator is controllable from outside the contained gas volume.

    摘要: A non-destructive method for analyzing a cork stopper for the presence of 2,4,6-trichloroanisole. The stopper is introduced into a hermetically closed container. The container containing the stopper is heated under conditions vaporizing any 2,4,6-trichloroanisole present in the stopper. A gaseous sample of the atmosphere surrounding the stopper in the container is collected and analyzed for the presence of 2,4,6-trichloroanisole. This method allows the selection, in a batch of cork stoppers, of the stoppers that are substantially free of 2,4,6-trichloroanisole, in a non-destructive manner.

    摘要: An aerodynamic sampler for sampling particles from a surface or a flowing gas stream is provided. The sampler can include an arcuate-shaped shroud having a first opening and a second opening, the first opening being directed in a first direction and the second opening oppositely disposed and spaced apart from the first opening. A gas nozzle having at least one gas outlet directed generally in the first direction can be included and may or may not be located at least partially within the shroud. The gas nozzle is operable to supply a gas jet to a surface that is proximate the first opening of the shroud. In addition, a suction device operable to pull or suck the gas proximate the first opening through the second opening and afford for the gas to enter a detector is provided. The arcuate-shaped shroud can be a bell-shaped shroud with the first opening located at a bottom of the bell-shape.

    摘要: A measuring apparatus and method for use in measuring diffusible hydrogen concentrations in materials, structures, and other objects. In an embodiment of the invention for use in welding applications, the measuring apparatus (10) includes a sensor assembly (20) that, with an included sealing member (40), defines a sample area (17) on a weld bead (16) from which hydrogen evolves into a sample volume (18) defined by the sealing member (40), a sensor housing (34) and a sensor (22) of the sensor assembly (20). The hydrogen reacts with a sensing layer (28) and a reflector layer (30) positioned on the end of an optical fiber (24), all of which are included in the sensor assembly (20) and are sealably positioned within the sensor (22). The sensing layer (28) comprises a chemochromic material that undergoes changes in physical properties, such as optical transmission properties, when it reacts with hydrogen and these changes are measured by the measuring apparatus (10) to determine the amount of hydrogen evolving from the sample area (17). An optical fiber (46) is joined to the sensor optical fiber (24) to direct light (63) transmitted by a light source (62) in a hydrogen monitoring assembly (60) through the sensing layer (28) to strike the reflector layer (30) which reflects light (67) back through optical fiber (46) to a detector (68) in the hydrogen monitoring assembly (60). A signal analyzer (72) is included in the hydrogen monitoring assembly (60) and is calibrated and configured to measure the diffusible hydrogen concentration in the weld bead (16) based on measured changes in the optical transmission properties of the sensing layer (28).
