    摘要: A system and method for controlling an appliance, such as an indoor ceiling fan, including a controller operatively connected to the appliance motor for controlling its speed and direction of rotation in response to command signals, a control switch adapted to be located remote from the appliance such as a on a wall to provide command signals in response to manual inputs, and a communication link such as the existing a.c. power line, for transmitting command signals from the control switch to the appliance controller. The control switch is characterized by a plurality of operator members such as a keypad each providing no more than one distinct primary function command when manually operated and a processor for converting function commands provided by the operator members into speed and direction command signals for use by the appliance controller. The appliance controller comprises a processor for converting command signals received by the controller into signals for controlling the supply of motor current. The command signals transmitted from the control switch to the appliance controller over the a.c. power lines are digital signals generated by a pulse code modulation method. The appliance can have a lamp associated therewith and means for controlling the brightness thereof in response to commands from the control switch. The system can include a plurality of appliances and associated controllers whereupon the control switch provides address information for selecting particular ones or groups of the appliance controllers.

    摘要: A display and control element is described which comprises several lighted push buttons which are--if necessary--mutually resetable and are mounted on a board insertable into a casing. The operating of the individual lighted push buttons as well as the optional mutual resetability is electrically determined by means of circuits. The arrangement and setting of such circuits is adjustable without change of the wiring by means of code switches, crossbar distributors, plug-in connectors, etc. or by means of the program (software) of a microprocessor which preferably is mounted on a separate plug-in board. For more complicated plants to be controlled several such elements may be combined in a casing and, if necessary, also several such casings may be connected to each other by means of data lines. In such a case it is advisable to locate the microprocessor in a central casing, so that such a microprocessor can centrally control all the display and control elements with respect to their operation and their mutual resetability. In view of the versatility of the display and control element according to the invention such element may replace the several display and control elements of different construction being necessary according to the prior art for the control of for example air conditioning plants, thereby saving costs with respect to construction as well as maintenance.

    摘要: An AC power line communications system includes means for transmitting data to and receiving data from a plurality of transceivers over a conventional AC power distribution network. A central procession unit is provided to poll a plurality of room control units which are placed in each room or designated area of a hotel, hospital or building complex. The central processing unit conducts this polling sequence by periodically transmitting, over the neutral and ground lines of the power distribution network, and interrogation signal having an address portion and a data portion. Each room control unit is arranged to receive the interrogation signal and to compare the address portion of this signal with an address previously programmed into the unit. If the address portion of the interrogation signal corresponds with the programmed address of the room control unit, the unit transmits a return signal to the central processing unit. The room control units uses the data portion of the interrogation signal to report a number of different features of functions within the room (or area) in which the room control unit is located. A sequence of successive, identical addresses is used to allow the room control unit to accept data from the central processor. The central processing unit processes the data contained in the return signal insuring that the data received by the room control unit coincides wih the data transmitted to it by the central processing unit and permitting a record of the data accumulated by the room control unit to be made.This AC power line communications system is well suited to be used in combination with a room status indicating system to monitor the status of each room in buildings such as a hotel, motel, or hospital complex, to monitor the condition of a smoke detector located in each room of the complex, to remotely control the operation of the heating and cooling equipment in each room of the complex, to convey message-waiting information to each room in the complex and to perform an automatic wake-up operation.

    摘要: The switch of the invention is a double deck type rotary switch having a position deck for detecting a home position and means for determining each position of the switch relative to the home position. A switching deck, rotated together with the position deck, selectively applies operating voltage to a plurality of operative devices, such as sprinkling valves.The system incorporates a microprocessor to control a motor for driving the rotary switch to a commanded position. The position deck signals the microprocessor as the deck reaches the predetermined position and the processor provides a delay before applying voltage to the switching deck, insuring that good load contact is made, so that arcing is avoided. The switching deck makes its load contact a few degrees ahead of the position deck in order that the load contacts for the work voltage are in the center of their terminal spring clips before the microprocessor is signaled that the predetermined position has been attained.A common operating line from the microprocessor to the switching deck includes a single valve driver for use with any one of the plurality of valves.

    摘要: An analog output control circuit provides an arrangement whereby digital data from the control computer is supplied simultaneously to a number of output boards along with address data for selecting a particular one of the several boards. Logic control means is provided for responding to an address code for enabling the selected board. Additional control logic is provided for responding to control signals from the computer for selecting a particular one of the several output units included on the output circuit board. Control logic is also provided to prevent the output units from being changed in the absence of logic control or power supply.
