Apparatus and methods to reduce unwanted motion in precision instruments are described. An active vibration-isolation system may include a feedback loop that senses motion of an intermediate mass. In noisy environments, where the feedback loop would otherwise fail or provide inadequate isolation, feedforward control can be implemented to sense floor vibrations and reduce motion of the intermediate mass that would otherwise be induced by the floor vibrations. The feedforward control can reduce motion of the intermediate mass to a level that allows the feedback loop to operate satisfactorily.

A digital measurement input for an electric automation device has a receiving device configured to receive digital input measurement values generated by sampling an analog measurement signal at a first sampling rate, and a signal converting device configured to generate digital output measurement values from the digital input measurement values and to provide digital output measurement values. The sampling rate and sampling times of each digital output measurement value is adapted to a specified sampling rate and/or specified sampling time. The signal converting device has a digital encoder filter on the input side and a digital decoder filter on the output side, between which an interpolator is provided. The encoder filter, the interpolator, and the decoder filter are matched to one another so as to adapt the sampling rate and/or sampling time of the digital input measurement values.

A fault diagnosis apparatus and method capable of simultaneously detecting the fault of a multiplexer and the fault of an A/D converter and isolating and identifying causes of these faults, the multiplexer and the A/D converter being used in a multi-channel analog input/output circuit. Test-voltage values are inputted from a diagnosis-voltage input unit into the multiplexer and the A/D converter constituting an analog-signal conversion unit, the multiplexer having plural channels, the A/D converter converting outputs from the multiplexer into digital signals, the test-voltage values being different from each other for each channel of the multiplexer. Comparisons are made between the digital voltage values and the test-voltage values inputted, the digital voltage values being outputted for each channel of the multiplexer. From this comparison result, it is judged whether the multiplexer is at fault or the A/D converter is at fault.

An object of the present invention is to provide a control unit for vehicle where increase in number of input/output and upgrading of function can easily be performed and, in addition to this, changing of a program in a control unit can easily be performed even when a single-chip micro-computer is used.In order to cope with an increase in input/output points and addition of function, a control unit is constructed such as to comprise interface software memory means storing an interface software program for connecting an application software program with an OS (operating system) in an internal ROM, a CPU (central processing unity for performing computation of the application software program and the interface software program, a RAM (erasable memory) storing data such as the result of computation, an I/O unit for extending the control unit, and extending means for communicating memory data through a bus or a LAN.A single-chip micro-computer used in vehicle control can easily cope with increase in input/output points or addition of function, and an application software program can continuously be used only by rewriting an interface software program, and further re-manufacturing of a core unit is unnecessary. Therefore, development of a control unit including programs becomes easy.

The system is characterized by signal converter means which convert data between the varied analog forms generated by the field devices and a standard form of intermediate signal, e.g., a pulse-width signal, which carries data as a function of duration. The intermediate signals facilitate signal transmission, editing, and isolation, and permit the process control system to have a simple, noise-free, easily adaptable structure. Digital interface means then convert data between the intermediate signals and digital signals in a form suitable for use by digital data processing means.
