    摘要: An electric wire that has a conductor held by spacers in a covering of polytetrafluoro-ethylene (PTFE), continuous cells being formed between the covering, the spacers, and the conductor. In an axial section, the majority of the PTFE fibers of the spacers point in a substantially radial direction, thereby imparting excellent robustness to the spacers. A method of manufacturing such an electric wire, in which method an extrudate of PTFE is caused to pass through an extrusion passage around the conductor in such a manner as to form the covering; so that: upstream from an expansion section, the covering is formed by a guide; and downstream from this section, the cells are formed by section members, the spacers being formed by filling expansion channels situated between walls of the section members.

    摘要: A communication cable can comprise twisted pairs of electrical conductors for transmitting electrical signals, such as for digital communication or data transmission. The pairs can be twisted to different lengths, thereby managing interference among the pairs. The electrical conductors of the pairs can be individually insulated with a polymeric material comprising a base polymer that is foamed with a gas such as nitrogen. The respective foaming levels of the electrical conductors in each pair can be selected to balance electrical properties among the pairs.

    摘要: A device for making a profiled insulation having an extrusion die with an extrusion tip and a polymer chamber surrounding the extrusion tip. The polymer chamber has at least one air chamber therein. The air chamber is held in place and coupled to the outside of the extrusion die by a vertical fin extending outwards from the extrusion tip. When molten polymer flows through the polymer chamber around the air chamber, an opening is introduced into the polymer such that the profiled insulation is formed as the polymer exits the extrusion die, having a longitudinal cavity therein corresponding to the location of the opening formed by the at least one air chamber.
