摘要: An electric fuse includes a conductive material formed on a top surface of an insulating material. The conductive material includes a wiring portion, and first and second terminal portions arranged in two ends of the wiring portion so that the wiring portion is located between the first and second terminal portions. The first terminal portion, the wiring portion, and the second terminal portion are lined up in a first direction. The first and second terminal portions each have a width larger than a width of the wiring portion in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction. The electric fuse includes a film including an opening which exposes a region between the first terminal portion and the second terminal portion. The film is formed above at least a part of the wiring portion and has a tensile stress.

摘要: A fuse assembly for interrupting fault current in an external DC circuit. The fuse assembly includes 2n fusible conductor elements, where n is an integer, wherein the fusible conductor elements extend along, and are circumferentially around, a longitudinal axis of the fuse assembly. The fusible conductor elements are connected together in series to define fuse elements and the fusible conductor elements are orientated within the fuse assembly such that current flowing along each fusible conductor element is in the opposite direction to current flowing along the fusible conductor element or fusible conductor elements adjacent to it. The fuse assembly further includes a supply terminal connected to an end of the fuse element and connectible to a DC supply, and a load terminal connected to an opposite end of the first fuse element and connectible to an electrical load.

摘要: A trip mechanism for a fuse includes a trip unit disposed within an elongated housing of the fuse, and a processor. The trip unit includes a fuse element and an actuator for severing the fuse element, The processor is in electrical communication with the trip unit, and is adapted to monitor electrical current. Responsive to the processor detecting a predetermined prescribed electrical current, the processor is adapted to signal the actuator to sever the fuse element. The processor is programmable to selectively adjust the predetermined prescribed electrical current, thereby enabling the fuse to have a plurality different current ratings.

摘要: An electrical fuse apparatus comprises a conductor element defining an electrically conductive path between respective wire terminals for connecting the fuse apparatus to an electrical circuit. The conductor element includes a first reactive material and at least one ignition point for receiving external energy to initiate an exothermic reaction of the first reactive material with a second reactive material. The reaction generates a quantity of heat sufficient to melt the conductor and break the conductive path. The fuse can be an element in electrical circuits, including power controllers. A method for protecting a system using an exothermic fuse apparatus is also disclosed.

摘要: A release apparatus includes a coiled restraining wire with each end attached to a corresponding fuse wire. The fuse wires are supplied with respective actuation electric currents by respective independent current sources. Flow of actuation current through a fuse wire causes that fuse wire to break; breakage of either one or both fuse wires allows the restraining wire to partially uncoil and allow the release apparatus to transition from a retained condition to a released condition, by allowing disengagement of retention members from a release member that can then move out of the release apparatus. The release apparatus can be employed to attach a deployable component to a satellite or spacecraft, and can be readily repaired, refurbished or reset for repetitive ground testing.
