    摘要: A relaxation oscillator can provide a smaller and cheaper alternative to a crystal oscillator circuit in a wide variety of applications. A sawtooth relaxation oscillator can include overshoot error integration. Separate and distinct oscillator capacitor charging, overshoot error integration, and reset phases can be provided using separate comparators for first and second oscillation capacitors. Potential advantages can include high accuracy high-frequency clock, convenient trimming during initial calibration, clock frequency stability over temperature and time, fast startup with low overshoot, high power supply rejection, low power, or low noise/jitter. The oscillator can charge an oscillation capacitor up to a target voltage, then interrupt charging before beginning an error integration phase that adjusts the target voltage by integrating an overshoot error of a voltage on the oscillation capacitor. After completing the overshoot error integration, the voltage on the oscillation capacitor can be reset. The techniques described are believed to be capable of improving clock frequency accuracy and other characteristics.

    摘要: A local oscillator communicates a signal of relatively low frequency across an integrated circuit to the location of a mixer. Near the mixer, a frequency-multiplying SubHarmonically Injection-Locked Oscillator (SHILO) receives the signal and generates therefrom a higher frequency signal. If the SHILO outputs I and Q quadrature signals, then the I and Q signals drive the mixer. If the SHILO does not generate quadrature signals, then a quadrature generating circuit receives the SHILO output signal and generates therefrom I and Q signals that drive the mixer. In one advantageous aspect, the frequency of the signal communicated over distance from the local oscillator to the SHILO is lower than the frequency of the I and Q signals that drive the mixer locally. Reducing the frequency of the signal communicated over distance can reduce power consumption of the LO signal distribution system by more than fifty percent as compared to conventional systems.

    摘要: A wide tuning range oscillator system uses multiple active cores with cross-coupled transistors and multiple tapped inductors having windings that can be connected to circuit nodes. These active cores are connected to a pair of symmetric tapping points and are switched ON/OFF by biasing elements. Biasing schemes and the topology of the individual cross-coupled cores may be different from each other. The tapping points are symmetrically arranged around the center point of the inductor. One or more of the active cores may be enabled for tuning the center frequency of the oscillator system.

    摘要: An enhanced negative resistance voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) circuit is provided, in which a parallel connection of a capacitor and a resistor configured to provide frequency-dependent transconductance is present across source nodes of a first pair of field effect transistors in which gate nodes and drain nodes are cross-coupled. The source nodes of the first pair of field effect transistors are electrically shorted to drain nodes of a second pair of field effect transistors of which the gate nodes are electrically shorted to the gate nodes of the first pair of field effect transistors. The parallel connection of the capacitor and the resistor includes a parallel connection of a capacitor and a resistor such that the net transconductance of the first pair of field effect transistors is less at low frequencies where thermal noise and flicker noise are dominant part of the phase noise than at the operational frequency range.
