    摘要: A method for encoding a carrier signal in a video signal, the video signal having one or more frames, the frames each having a first field and a second field, the first field and the second field of each frame having a plurality of scan lines, each having a plurality of pixels with an intensity value indicating brightness, the method comprising selectively designating the plurality of scan lines of the first field of the one or more frames as up lines or down lines, calculating an optimum amount of adjustment to the pixels of the up lines and the down lines, and selectively increasing the intensity value of pixels of the up lines and decreasing the intensity value of pixels of the down lines by the optimum amount of adjustment thereby modulating the video signal with a carrier signal and creating a modulated video signal.

    摘要: The present invention relates to a communication system capable of performing efficient data transmission in HDMI(R) and the like, a transmission apparatus, a receiving apparatus, a communication method, and a program.An HDMI(R) source 53 determines whether or not an HDMI(R) sink 61 can receive a sub-signal on the basis of VSDB of E-EDID. When the HDMI(R) sink 61 can receive the sub-signal, the HDMI(R) source 53 adds a sub-signal to pixel data of a main image composed of pixel data whose number of bits is smaller than that of transmission pixel data transmitted by a transmitter 72, thereby constructing transmission pixel data. This data is transmitted by the transmitter 72 through TMDS channels #0 to #2. Furthermore, the HDMI(R) source 53 transmits a general control packet containing sub-signal information indicating whether or not the sub-signal is contained in the transmission pixel data in the control period of a vertical blanking period. The present invention can be applied to, for example, HDMI(R).

    摘要: A video signal processor is used to receive programs in the form of a composite video signal which incorporates a video broadcast channel, a main audio channel and an additional audio channel. The main audio channel may carry a standard audio track for the program while the additional audio channel carries a different audio track, such as dialogue in a foreign language, DVS audio track, or a modified audio track that has been changed from the main audio track slightly. The video signal processor selects one of the audio tracks as the active audio track based on the contents of the additional audio channels and/or a viewers' preferences.     摘要: A network terminal device utilizes a unique modulation scheme that enables the transmission of digital data over a wireless, cable or direct broadcast satellite TV channel without disturbing quality of television signals. A digital data stream of the network, for example, is transparently transmitted in the television channel in a superfluous sideband segment of the frequency spectrum using a technique, herein called vestigial quadrature modulation (VQM), that entails substituting the vestigial sideband of a conventional television signal with a sideband of a data-encoded signal, preferably being QAM-modulated. A sufficient portion of the television sideband spectrum displaced by the substituted data signal, e.g., to at least the 7.sup.th harmonic, is preserved for deriving sync information that is used both for clocking the digital data from the modulated data signal and for driving vertical and horizontal sync circuits of the television. A receiver in a network terminal device utilizes an interface that includes a channel splitter and SAW filters in each of respective data and video channels for separately processing the video and digital data signals. The sync signal clocks data from the data channel and an integer multiple thereof drives the horizontal sync circuits of a television set.
