    摘要: A glassware coating process and apparatus including ware handling, heating, coating and transfer equipment that is continuously operable to apply a coating of thermoplastic polymer resin to the exterior surface of the ware. The apparatus, among other things, includes a clamping mechanism for gripping heated ware about the finish thereof, which mechanism is immersible in a fluidized bed of the thermoplastic polymer resin along with the ware. Means feed pressurized gas to separate reciprocable cooperating elements of the clamping member to both cool said member and to inhibit polymer deposition on the grasped portion of the wave. Similarly, the invention incorporates a ware orientation device that accurately aligns the ware immediately prior to the seizure thereof by the clamping mechanism.

    摘要: A template for holding a chromatographic sheet while permitting the application of a series of liquid samples rapidly, and on a well defined area of fixed size, comprises a base plate adapted to receive a chromatographic sheet on its surface, an applicator plate mating with the base plate and adapted to lie on top of the sheet, and means for clamping the parts together to hold the sheet in place. The applicator plate and the base plate are hinged together and provided with latches for clamping them together. To provide wells for receiving liquid samples, the applicator plate has a plurality of bores therethrough within which are pressed plastic bushings for engaging the chromatographic sheet without damaging its delicate surface. Also, two stop springs ease the movement of the applicator plate into register with the base plate so as to avoid damage to the chromatographic sheet. The base plate is provided with an abutment against which an edge of a chromatographic sheet is precisely positioned. The hinges are readily disengaged and reengaged to permit cleaning of the parts. Evaporation of solvent from the samples can be assisted by providing a suitable electrical heater in the base plate.

    摘要: Method and apparatus for processing coiled tubing or other material having turns prebent to varying radii of curvature without unbending the tubing. A coil of tubing is rotatably supported and the turns of tubing from the coil are sequentially separated axially of the coil. The axially separated tubing is guided into and through a processing station. The tubing is maintained on a predetermined path through the processing station by sensing deviation of the tubing from the predetermined path and then directing the tubing into the path in response to the sensed deviation. The trailing end of the tubing is sensed as it passes through the processing station, and further directing of the tubing is discontinued. The natural fall of the coil is utilized by spacing the processing station from the apparatus for rotatably supporting the coil in order to reduce the mechanical effort of feeding the tubing through the processing station. The processing station additionally is set at an angle that coincides with the normal fall of the separated coil turns, further to facilitate the movement of the turns through the processing station. Tapered support rollers are utilized for supporting the coil prior to processing, the taper being such as to accomodate the difference in linear velocity of the tubing occasioned by the varying radii of curvature of the turns. The tubing is recoiled in a rotatable receiving drum spaced beneath the processing station. The processed tubing moves directly to the receiving drum without contact with any support or guiding structure to provide a minimum of handling after processing.

    摘要: The labeling apparatus has a source of labels, a gripping turret with mechanical gripping elements that withdraw labels from the label source and fly the labels against the glue retaining surface of a gluing drum, en route to apply the labels to containers. The mechanical grippers are so arranged as to grip only the leading edges of the labels. There is a space between the glue drum and the gripper turret so that label portions trailing their gripped leading edges fly in said space in unsupported relation to the turret. Optional air jet nozzles may blow the flying label portions against the glue drum. The glue drum is provided directly with a doctor blade which spreads glue onto a uniform film on the drum. The drum is provided with recesses to receive the mechanical gripping elements below the glue drum surfaces as the gripping elements sweep past the drum.

    摘要: Apparatus for the in situ formation of and application to electrical insulator parts, of gaskets and pads, preferably of mica fibers, which gaskets and pads are interposed between the interfaces of the parts in their final assembled and rigidly interconnected relation. A rotor turnable about a fixed vertical axis has arms which are automatically and sequentially indexed to a plurality of fixed work stations. Each alternate one of the arms supports a first part, while each of the remaining arms supports a second part which is to be assembled with a first part. At one station means apply a coating of adhesive to the area of the part over which a gasket or pad is to be formed. At a second and subsequent station, flocking is applied to the adhesive-coated area, and at a third station excess flocking adhering to areas not coated with adhesive, is removed and collected for reuse. The flocking may be applied electrostatically to form in situ, a gasket wherein the fibers are parallel and upstanding like the bristles of a brush.

    摘要: In spin coating a liquid magnetic dispersion onto a rotating annular substrate, a stationary fluid barrier member is positioned closely adjacent the substrate after deposition of the dispersion thereon and during the time the excess dispersion is spun off, the substrate has a radial opening therein which permits fluid communication between the outer portion of the fluid barrier and its inner portion. The barrier member serves to reduce the rate of solvent evaporation from the dispersion so that the dispersion flows more readily during spin-off to produce a thinner resulting magnetic coating.
