    摘要: A locking mechanism for a thickness planer having a base and a carriage with a cutting head. The carriage is mounted to a plurality of support columns movably attached to the base. The locking mechanism includes a first lock plate associated with the base and positioned adjacent to a first pair of the support columns and a second lock plate associated with the base and positioned adjacent to a second different pair of the support columns. An actuator is coupled to the first lock plate and the second lock plate and is configured for causing the first lock plate to engage the first pair of the support columns and the second lock plate to engage the second pair of the support columns to exert a clamping force by moving the first and second lock plates towards each other to firmly secure the carriage in position.

    摘要: The reinforced lead screw has a hollow, elongate reinforcing rail surrounding a lead screw and a nut-bearing movable along the reinforcing rail. The nut-bearing has a portion projecting through a slot in the reinforcing rail and includes threads to engage the threads on the lead screw such that when the lead screw is rotated in either direction, the nut will translate along the rail. The rail may be provided with a sleeve-bearing which, in combination with the rail, serves not only as a guide for movement of the nut but lateral support for the lead screw.

    摘要: Varying fluid pressure varies the thickness of an elastic spacer between ball nuts of the ball screw. The spacer thickness determines opposed axial forces applied to the ball nuts. During a high-speed excursion of the screw, pressure in the elastic spacer is reduced, thus reducing friction between the ball nuts and the screw. When the screw is being fine positioned for precise operation, pressure in the elastic spacer is increased, thereby urging the ball nuts apart to eliminate play in the ball screw.
