摘要: A waste management system dispenses liquid manure and/or sludge products onto land on which is grown a cultivar that is specially selected to perform with improved yields and stand persistence under conditions of heavy traffic, grazing, manure application and/or fertilizer loading. Selective breeding and/or selection for improved performance under conditions of heavy traffic, grazing and defecation has produced cultivars that demonstrate improved performance in this use.

摘要: The wastewater treatment systems have a plurality of treatment modules between the inlet and the outlet, each for treating water with a selected process. Influent is directed to a fixed-film reactor. Water then flows to a hydroponic reactor, in which aquatic plants are suspended atop the liquid for achieving aquatic-root-zone treatment. A filtration device removes any remaining suspended solids following the hydroponic reactor. Recycling may occur to the fixed-film reactor to enhance nitrogen removal from one or both of the hydroponic reactor and the filtration device.

摘要: Symbiotic sewage water treatment plant that develops a depuration proceeding of sewage water from a primary or secondary treatment process in intimate association with sport yards, public gardens, leisure or green areas, agricultural plantations. The present invention allows improvement of sewage waters quality until proper values of tertiary use by means of the economical resources generated by creation of green areas that do not require supplementary water supply, developing on the green covers planted over the layers of a treatment plant of the kind filtration-percolation. This depuration procedure is operated by underground water supply to the percolation layers, increasing the treatment efficiency (less water lost because of evaporation), allowing use of green areas during they're irrigation avoiding direct contact of sewage waters with they're end users.

摘要: The present invention is a method and apparatus to provide for the safe and effective removal and neutralization of ammonia from a stream of waste oil or other liquid. The apparatus consists of a receiving tank, a treatment tank, circulation piping, associated controls, pumping and monitoring mechanisms. The primary utility for the invention is with commercial and industrial refrigeration units. The neutralizing solution in the treatment tank is circulated through the piping which includes a venturi that is used to induce a negative gauge pressure in the receiving tank by creating a suction that draws gases from the receiving tank. The negative pressure allows the receiving tank to pull the mixture of waste oil and entrained ammonia from the drain port of the refrigeration system even when the system is below atmospheric pressure. The venturi also removes ammonia gas from the receiving tank. The system provides for the introduction of a neutralizing agent such as carbon dioxide to be mixed with liberated ammonia as it is drawn into the circulation piping and returned to the treatment tank. Other paths in the circulation piping pass the neutralizing solution through a heat exchanger in the receiving tank or just return it to the treatment tank for mixing. Heat transfer cools the treatment tank and heats the receiving tank which facilitates evaporation of liquid ammonia.

摘要: A wastewater treatment system includes a first lagoon having an inlet for receiving wastewater to be treated and a first vertical flow marsh cell having a bottom outlet. Water can be transported from the first lagoon to the first marsh cell. A second lagoon has an inlet for receiving water from the first marsh cell outlet and a second vertical flow marsh cell having a bottom outlet. Water can be transported from the second lagoon to the second marsh cell. At least a portion of the water exiting the second marsh cell outlet can be recycled to the first lagoon. The first and the second lagoon are adapted to function essentially aerobically and to contain plants having roots positioned to contact water flowing thereinto. 摘要: A system to control nutrients, suspended algae, and filamentous algae in lakes, ponds, and estuaries includes a structure for containing macrophytic vegetation. One embodiment segregates a column of water within a body of water desired for remediation and shields the water column from sunlight sufficiently to kill phytoplankton therein, the lysis thereof releasing nutrients. The released nutrients are sequestered, and remediated water is replaced in the water column with water from the body of water. Floating or submerged macrophytes can be introduced in combination with shading and induced water movement to optimize nutrient uptake by the macrophytes. Water column shading may also be achieved by the macrophytes themselves, or by other means. The macrophytes can include floating aquatic plants, such as water hyacinths, submerged aquatic plants, and terrestrial or aquatic plants caused to float artificially. The invention also deals with toxic algae in a safe and sequestered way.

摘要: Periphyton filtration is a known method for performing bioremediation of polluted water, removing nutrients from the influent on which the attached algae thrive. The present system improves upon this method by adding a strong oxidizer to the influent, and, in some cases, to the effluent, to make organically bound nutrients available to a target culture of periphyton or aquatic plants to reduce the population of undesirable microinvertebrates, to make organically bound nutrients available to the periphyton, and to reduce the level of toxic compounds. A particular embodiment comprises ozonating the water. A pesticide may be added to control insect populations.
