A lubricant composition (A) to improve the melt strength and processability, e.g. extrudability, of a polymer formed from at least one ethylenically unsaturated compound, the composition (A) comprising (1) a heat stabilizer known to be capable of heat stabilizing the said polymer; (2) an external lubricant for the said polymer, and (3) an oxidized polymer, wherein at least 50% of the repeating units of the oxidized polymer are derived from ethylene and any remaining units thereof are derived from at least one alpha -olefin containing from 3 to 10 carbon atoms, and the oxidized polymer exhibits an acid number greater than 5 and a melt viscosity of from 1,000 to about 60,000 centipoises at a temperature of 140 DEG C. … There is also provided a polymer composition (B) comprising a halogen-containing polymer as a major component together with the said lubricant composition (A).

A flame-retardant and radiation-resistant polymer composition comprising a polymer and a halogenated acenaphthylene condensate having a structural unit of the formula (I) or (II): ##STR1## (wherein X is chlorine or bromine, n and n' are each an integer of 2 to 6, R is a substituent other than halogen, m and m' are each an integer of 0 to 4, n (or N')+m(or m').ltoreq.6, and when m or m' is 2 or more, each R may be the same or different) and a flame-retardant and radiation-resistant resin molded product prepared therefrom are herein disclosed.

A process for the preparation of a chlorinated aliphatic polymer which comprises chlorinating a chlorine-free aliphatic polymer in a chlorinated hydrocarbon solvent using gaseous chlorine as the chlorinating agent; adding from 2 to 25% by weight, based on the chlorinated polymer, of at least one plasticizer and/or at least one lacquer resin, to the chlorination solution; and isolating the chlorinated aliphatic polymer from the chlorination solution by steam distillation.

A process for removing residual monomer from an emulsifier-containing aqueous dispersion of a solid vinyl chloride polymer having a surface tension of less than 60 dyne/cm., which comprises continuously admixing the polymer dispersion with steam in a fluid flow pipe under a pressure of 150-600 torr at a flow velocity of 1-20 m./sec., and passing said admixture at an exit velocity of 30-100 m./sec. horizontally into and along the walls of a degasification tank having a pressure 30-200 torr lower than the pressure in said flow pipe to evaporate residual monomer.

A binder composition for fibrous mats, preferably inorganic fibrous mats, which is fire resistant when cured is provided. The binder composition comprises a stable mixture of an aqueous aldehyde condensation polymer-based resin, a fire retardant latex and, optionally, an effective amount of an aqueous silica colloid, wherein the weight ratio of the latex to the resin is at least 1:1 on a non-volatile weight basis. The effective amount of the silica colloid is an amount sufficient to enhance the flame resistant property of the binder composition after curing and yet remain compatible with the components of the binder composition prior to curing.

A stabilized chlorinated resin latex comprising a mixture in water of A) 50-95 wt. %, based on the weight of A and B, of a chlorinated resin, substantially free of acid moieties, having a chlorine content of 15-70 wt. %, and B) 5-50 wt. %, based on the weight of A and B, of a salt of a water-insoluble C.sub.2 -C.sub.12 alpha, beta- unsaturated olefin copolymer which contains at least 2 mole % acid moieties and is compatible with the chlorinated resin.
