Abstract: The present invention relates to a non-spray-drying, dry-granulation process for making a ceramic particulate mixture comprising from 4 wt % to 9 wt % water, wherein at least 90 wt % of the particles have a particle size of from 80 μm to 600 μm, wherein the process comprises the steps of:
(a) forming a precursor material;
(b) subjecting the precursor material to a compaction step to form a compacted precursor material;
(c) subjecting the compacted precursor material to a crushing step to form a crushed precursor material; and
(d) subjecting the crushed precursor material to at least two air classification steps, wherein one air classification step removes at least a portion of the particles having a particle size of greater than 600 μm from the crushed precursor material, and wherein the other air classification step removes at least a portion of the particles having a particle size of less than 80 μm from the crushed precursor material.-

Abstract: A pore-forming microsphere homogenizing device and method include steps of: firstly homogenizing the pore-forming microspheres made of the cow dung into the clay paste; secondly homogenizing the materials by using the kneading gear and the ejection cylinder rotating in opposite directions for kneading the clay paste while ejecting the pore-forming microspheres; and thirdly homogenizing the materials by using the telescopic kneading part and the ejection cylinder together for further kneading the clay paste while ejecting the pore-forming microspheres. With the foregoing processes, uniform and complete closed pores are uniformly distributed in the clay bricks, so that the strength of the clay bricks remains unchanged while clay usage is reduced.

Abstract: A reflective particulate material includes a particulate substrate having high total solar reflectance, bulk and apparent densities and toughness, and a low dust index. The reflective particulate can have a total solar reflectance of 80% to 87%, a toughness of 1% or fewer fines, an apparent density of 2.75 g/cm3 or greater, and a dust index of 1 or lower. A method of manufacturing the reflective particulate material includes preparing a slurry of the particulate substrate, spray drying the slurry to form a spray dried particulate, crushing the spray dried particulate to form a crushed particulate, and heating/calcining the crushed particulate. The heated, crushed particulate may further be coated to form a coated roofing granule.

Abstract: A method of preparing a mineral ore may include crushing the mineral ore via a crusher apparatus to form crushed mineral ore. The method may further include depositing the crushed mineral ore into a media mill and adding water and dispersant into the media mill to form a slurry of the crushed mineral ore. The method may further include operating the media mill to grind the crushed mineral ore to form a slurry of ground mineral ore, and separating media of the media mill from the slurry of the ground mineral ore. The mineral ore may include at least one of bauxite and kaolin. For example, the mineral ore may include at least one of crude bauxite and crude kaolin, and crushing the mineral ore may include crushing the at least one of crude bauxite and crude kaolin. The method may be used to prepare a feed for use in ceramic proppants.

Abstract: A method of reducing the swell potential of an expansive clayey soil comprising expansive clay mineral(s) at a proportion of the total weight of the expansive clayey soil (PECM). The method includes (a) calculating a first amount of a swelling reduction agent to be incorporated into the expansive clayey soil to form a first swelling reduction agent incorporated expansive clayey soil with a reduced swell potential no greater than a pre-set level T with a nano-level constitutive modeling based on the water content and the CEC of the expansive clayey soil and PECM. The swelling reduction agent is at least one selected from calcite, gypsum, potassium chloride, a composition comprising exchangeable K+, a composition comprising exchangeable Ca2+, and/or a composition comprising exchangeable Mg2+, and (b) incorporating the first amount of the swelling reduction agent into the expansive clayey soil to form the first swelling reduction agent incorporated expansive clayey soil.

Abstract: A reflective particulate composition includes a particulate mixture that includes a particulate substrate, a hardness enhancer and a pigment. The reflective particulate substrate has a hydrophobic coating on the particulate mixture. The composition may have a solar reflectance of 70% or greater. The pigment may include a clay, and the particulate substrate may include a feldspar. A method of making the composition may include mixing the particulate substrate, the hardness enhancer, and the pigment to form a particulate mixture, heat treating the particulate mixture, and coating the heat treated mixture with the hydrophobic coating.
