    摘要: A non-contacting position sensor detects relative displacement between two objects. A magnetic flux source is provided by a plurality of discrete magnets selectively determined to produce a highly configurable flux source that is easily adapted to rotary or rectilinear displacement. The interaction of the individual flux fields generated by the discrete magnets is controlled to produce both linear and non-linear relationships with respect to changes in displacement. A flux-gathering pole piece is dimensionally optimized to integrate the plurality of individual flux fields directed to a magnetic sensor.

    摘要: A magnetostrictive element, which may be of rectangular shape, is positioned next to a hard magnetic biasing element field with patterns recorded therein which bias the magnetostrictive element to resonate at selected frequencies, particularly harmonics of the fundamental frequency, in response to an alternating interrogating magnetic field at the same frequencies. Data may thus be encoded by selecting the frequencies at which the element will resonate. In addition to resonance at different harmonics, resonance in different modes, particularly longitudinal, transverse or flexural modes may be produced. The device may be applied to article identity systems, such as security systems but also has many other applications.

    摘要: A position sensor for a moving member of a mechanical device is disclosed. The sensor includes an optical sensing means such as solid-state image sensor and illuminating means such as a plurality of light-emitting diodes, stationarily mounted to face scribing marks provided on the moving member. The microprocessor controlled image sensor generates a digital signal representative of the scribing marks on the moving member. A cable is provided between the position sensor and a remote digital computer which applies control and command signals to the sensor and receives the digital signal representation of the moving member scribing marks. The image is presented on a CRT screen allowing a human being a remote visual image of the position of the moving member. The remote digital computer also processes the received digital signal from each of the moving members and generates an alarm if the movement is greater than a predetermined amount.

The system includes a control logic arrangement powered by a power source, and an intrinsically safe barrier operatively connected to the control logic arrangement, and also powered by the same power source. The intrinsically safe barrier is adapted to be operatively connected to at least one sensor which is also powered by the same power source. The sensor is configured to communicate data representing a parameter to the control logic arrangement via the intrinsically safe barrier. In one embodiment, the control logic arrangement, the intrinsically safe barrier and the sensor are galvonically isolated from external components and/or provided in one enclosure.

    摘要: A reconfigurable position detection system demodulates an LVDT sensor via software in a microprocessor instead of hardware. The LVDT output is sampled and undergoes a root mean square calculation or an averaging calculation to obtain an LVDT position value. The lack of hardware demodulation circuitry allows the system to be reconfigured to accept sensors other than LVDT sensors by modifying the software in the microprocessor, without requiring any changes to hardware components in the system.
