摘要： A method and apparatus for passive self-cleaning filtration of a liquid containing suspended solids is disclosed. A filter assembly of upright cylindrical filter tubes having open, downwardly-facing ends is placed within a tank of unfiltered liquid. The filter assembly is positioned in the flow of liquid through the tank such that the unfiltered liquid must pass through the filter tubes prior to discharge from the tank. The inner walls of the filter tubes are smooth with small filtering holes. Unfiltered liquid is passes up into the filter tubes and the solids are collected in the tubes and on the smooth walls. Filtered liquid that has passed through the filter tubes is kept separated from the unfiltered liquid by a barrier that functionally prevents passage of unfiltered liquid. The filtered liquid is passed out of the tank. A filter housing protects the filtered liquid and the outside surface of the filter tubes from unfiltered liquid. The solids that have collected in the filter tubes and on the smooth inner walls of the filter fall out of the open, downwardly-facing ends of the filter tubes. The filter housing has a lower chamber below the filter assembly with a sloping floor and an opening for unfiltered liquid to enter the filter housing and accumulated solids to leave the housing. The sloping floor encourages solids that fall out of the filter tubes to move down the slope and out of the housing. The filter assembly may be raised at least partially out of the tank and cleaned by washing the solids down the inside walls of the filter tubes, onto the sloping floor, and back into the unfiltered liquid. The filter assembly may be associated with a pump which pumps filtered liquid from the tank.

摘要： A removable catch basin filter insert includes a filter container is fitted into a catch basin in the ground at the location where the stormwater exits the gutter and enters the stormwater sewer system. The removable catch basin filter provides pollution capture from stormwater while being easily cleaned. A hinged cover is included at the top of the filter insert to allow the captured pollutants to be evacuated through the use of a vehicle or being tipped nearly upside down by a mechanical arm. A hinged trap door is included at the bottom of the filter insert to allow captured pollutants to be evacuated through the bottom of the device and into a container. By capturing the pollutants with the removable catch basin filter insert before the pollutants enter the mainline storm drain system, clean storm drain systems are provided allowing for cleaner waterways.

摘要： There is provided method and apparatus for creating a longitudinally disposed, sharp pulse of liquid, useful for pulseback renewal of liquid-entry faces of a panel-bed liquid filter or a panel-bed liquid-powder contactor. Perforations are disposed along the wall of a tank in a path generally parallel to the tank's axis. Stoppers are provided for stoppering the perforations. With the perforations so stoppered, a liquid is introduced at high pressure into the tank. Thereafter, a quick unstoppering of the perforations releases the liquid from the tank in form of a longitudinally disposed, sharp pulse of liquid moving in a direction perpendicular to the tank's axis. If the tank is placed vertically alongside or within a space that in normal operation receives liquid from a panel bed, the sharp pulse can effectively pulseback the panel bed.

摘要： A variety of improved hydroclone based fluid filtering systems are described. The hydroclones generally include a tank having an internal chamber and a filter (preferably a surface filter) that is positioned within the internal chamber. The filter defines a filtered fluid chamber within the internal chamber of the tank. The hydroclone may be operated such that a vortex of flowing fluid is formed between the chamber wall and the filter with the filter being located in the center of the vortex. With this arrangement, the filter acts as a cross-flow filter. In one aspect of the invention, a circulating cleaning assembly is provided in the hydroclone region. In yet another aspect of the invention, improved hydroclone intake structures are described.
