The method includes: providing a gear workpiece; forming a joining section on the gear workpiece that defines a weld interface; applying a material to the outside surface of the gear workpiece including the joining section; cutting a plurality of teeth in the material-covered gear workpiece, each of the plurality of teeth having first and second flanks and a root, wherein the material does not reside on any one of the first flanks, the second flanks and the roots; heat treating the gear workpiece to harden the teeth; and finishing the heat-treated gear workpiece in a finishing process to form a finished ring gear, the finishing process comprising at least one of a turning operation and a lapping operation; wherein the material is disposed over the weld interface on the finished ring gear. A welded assembly is also provided.

    摘要： A bottom-loading pot broaching machine has a pot broach vertically mounted on a horizontal face of a base support structure to symmetrically distribute loading forces to the machine. This structure also enables loading and unloading arms to be mounted to the pot broach so as to be mechanically coupled and phased to allow both loading and unloading of the pot broach during a single cycle. A magnetic escapement mechanism is mounted proximately to the unloading arm to magnetically retain a finished workpiece for unloading by the unloading arm.

    摘要： A hydro-mechanically operated reciprocating spindle for a machine tool is disclosed in the environment of a vertical gear shaper. The spindle comprises a piston which is slidable in a cylinder and which carries a cutting tool at its bottom end. The spindle-piston has two faces of different area to which hydraulic fluid under pressure is directed, the larger area face being used to drive the spindle downwardly in the cutting stroke, and the smaller area face being used to drive the spindle upwardly in the return stroke. Further, the spindle-piston has an axial bore which receives a vertically reciprocable valve. The valve is reciprocated by linkages driven by a rotating shaft, and the arrangement is such as to drive the valve downwardly and thus to move the spindle downwardly at a controlled velocity and under a controlled hydraulic force, and then as the valve is moved upwardly the spindle is moved upwardly on the return stroke at preferably a higher velocity.
