摘要: The biodegradable composite insulation material is made from date palm leaf fibers and powdered okra. The date palm leaf fibers have a concentration of between 50 wt % and 90 wt % of the biodegradable composite insulation material, and the powdered okra has a concentration of between 10 wt % and 50 wt % of the biodegradable composite insulation material. The biodegradable composite insulation material is prepared by mixing date palm leaf fibers and powdered okra, in the above concentrations, to form a mixture. This mixture is then wetted with water, added to a mold, and heated under pressure to form a compressed article. The compressed article is then dried to form the biodegradable composite insulation material.

The insulating material can be a porous material that comprises a plurality of pores, and the liquid phase change material is disposed in the plurality of pores. The phase change material can also be stored in a container and used as layer in an insulation system.

The insulated building studs includes a first portion, a second portion, an insulated portion with a first side and a second side, wherein the first portion is coupled to the first side of the insulated portion and the second portion is coupled to the second side of the insulated portion to form a building member, and at least one mesh coupled to at least one of a top and a bottom of the building member. A method of manufacturing insulated building studs is also disclosed.

摘要: An open cell polyurethane foam is provided which has a cell size and structure which allows the foam to act as an air and water barrier while still having acceptable water vapour permeability. The foam preferably is produced using water as a blowing agent, and includes a mixture of open cell-promoting, and closed-cell-promoting surfactants so as to provide an open cell foam structure having a cell size of about 1 μm, a density of about 1.05 lb per cubic foot, and wherein the cell structure includes randomly occurring solid walls on some cells. The open cell polyurethane foams of the present invention are suitable for use as insulation on the exterior surfaces of a building.

摘要: Fiber-containing composites are described that include woven or non-woven fibers, and a binder that holds the fibers together. The binder may include the reaction product of a starch and a polycarboxylic acid. The starch has a weight average molecular weight that ranges from 1×106 Daltons to 1×107 Daltons. The fiber-containing composite has an unaged tensile strength of greater than 4.0 and an aged tensile strength greater than 3.0. Also described are methods of making the fiber-containing composites. The methods may include applying a binder composition to fibers to form coated fibers, measuring a moisture content of the coated fibers, and curing the coated fibers in a curing oven to form the fiber-containing composite. The binder composition may include a starch having a weight average molecular weight that ranges from 1×106 Daltons to 1×107 Daltons, and a polycarboxylic acid.
