Abstract: A transducer activated tool for contacting workpiece surfaces and directing fluid adjacent to said surfaces is disclosed. The tool may be ultrasonically activated by attachment to an insert (11) that includes a magnetostrictive element (14). The tip (20, 50, 60, 80, 90) includes distal surfaces (58, 63, 81, 95) shaped to contact the workpiece and additionally includes a fluid passageway (45, 53, 61, 91) internal to the tip (20, 50, 60, 80, 90) that is bored generally along the centerline of the tip (20, 50, 60, 80, 90) but is offset (54, 93) from the tip axis (56, 92) such that a discharge orifice (46, 52, 57) is formed in the tip (20, 20, 50, 60, 80, 90) displaced from the distal tip end (58, 63, 81, 95). The passageway (45, 53, 61, 91) is preferably angularly offset (54, 93) so that the discharge orifice (46. 62, 57) is formed in the distal end (58, 63, 81, 95) of the tip (20, 50, 60, 80, 90) about 2-8 mm from the distal end (58, 63, 81, 95) of the tip. The tip (20, 50, 60, 80, 90) when shaped to conform to dental or tooth surfaces is particularly useful as a dental tool. In another embodiment the fluid passageway (91) is eccentrically offset (93) from the tip axis (92) wherein the passageway (91) is substantially parallel to the center axis (92) but displaced therefrom preferably by about 0.1 to 0.5 mm. The tip end and fluid delivery passageway discharge orifice (46, 62, 57) are located relative to each other such that fluid is provided to the workpiece or tip without the formation of excessive spray and without weakening the distal tip such that it is sufficiently strong to provide useful service in resisting flexural stresses and the like.

Abstract: A chip disposal device used in a machine tool for continuously expelling to another place chips produced from a cutting tool such as a drill while a work is being processed with the tool. In this device, a hooding means (13) is provided slidably relative to a work (w) for forming an air-tight space around a cutting tool (11) such as a drill which is mounted on a spindle (3) of the machine tool via a cutting tool mounting part, and an air suction pipe (15) is provided for sucking air from the space inside the hood. Abstract: A mobile boring tool of this type is secured to a place to be bored of a large workpiece and is used for carrying out precision boring operations by means of a tool through which a liquid lubricant is supplied to the tool cutters. The tool has a tool spindle (1) with a tool holding fixture (2) through which lubricant is supplied, as well as a drive for rotating and axially advancing the tool spindle. In order to increase machining precision and improve lubricant dosage, the boring tool has besides the rotary drive (15) a separate drive (25) for advancing the tool spindle, as well as a measurement system (24) for sensing the advance distance. The advance drive (25) is controlled by a computer depending on the axial advance distance, so that the tool spindle is driven by the rotary drive at a predetermined on-load speed of rotation or load torque. Lubricant supply is controlled depending on the predetermined on-load speed of rotation or load moment and on the advance distance.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for machining is provided. A mounting assembly for use with a spindle, a CNC machine, an auto changer device and an air supply line, can include a mounting collar and a mounting block. The mounting collar can have a collar body and a collar arm, where the collar body defines a collar opening and one or more grooves circumscribing the collar opening, where the one or more grooves each have a sealing element positioned therein, and wherein the collar arm has a collar inlet, a collar outlet and a collar channel to provide fluid communication between the collar inlet and the collar outlet. The mounting block can be connected to the CNC machine and can have a block inlet connected to the air supply line, a block outlet, and a block channel to provide fluid communication between the block inlet and the block outlet. The spindle can be selectively positioned through the collar opening and connected to the mounting collar. The collar outlet can be selectively placed in fluid communication with the spindle and sealed by the sealing element. The collar inlet can be selectively placed in fluid communication with the block outlet by the auto changer device. The spindle can be selectively rotated in the collar opening.
