    Abstract: A vehicle door (108) for fitting to a vehicle body (102) includes a vehicle door frame, and a pivot arm (110) coupled to the door frame. The door frame includes an upper portion (142), a lower portion (144), and a pair of opposite sides (146, 148) extending between the upper and lower portions (142, 144). The pivot arm (110) is coupled to the door frame adjacent one of the opposite sides (146), and includes a pair of opposite ends. One of the ends of the pivot arm (110) includes a first hinge (113) for pivotally coupling the pivot arm (110) to the vehicle body (102) about a first pivot axis. The other end includes a second hinge (115) pivotally coupling the door frame to the pivot arm (110) about a second pivot axis.

    Abstract: A sliding door drive assembly for a motor vehicle having a sliding door includes a transmission operatively connected to a motor for transmitting a rotating force to an output shaft. A cable drum is fixedly secured to the output shaft and rotates therewith. First and second cables are wound about the cable drum in opposite directions. The first cable extends from the cable drum forward along the sliding door. The second cable extends from the cable drum rearward along the sliding door. Support guides extend tangentially out from the cable drum to guide the first and second cables outwardly and away from the cable drum along a path minimizing frictional forces. Front and rear pulley assemblies are mounted to the motor vehicle and are operatively coupled to the first and second cables between the sliding door drive assembly and the sliding door for tensioning the first and second cables.

    Abstract: A sliding door drive assembly is used with a motor vehicle having an electric energy source and a sliding door. The sliding door drive assembly includes a motor that is electrically connected to the electric energy source. The motor converts electric energy into a rotating force. The sliding door drive assembly also includes a transmission that is operatively connected to the motor for transmitting the rotating force to an output shaft. A cable drum is fixedly secured to the output shaft and rotates with the output shaft. First and second cables are wound about the cable drum in opposite directions. The first cable extends from the cable drum forward along a path to the sliding door. The second cable extends from the cable drum rearward along the path toward the sliding door. The sliding door drive assembly also includes support guides extending tangentially out from the cable drum to guide the first and second cables outwardly and away from the cable drum along a path minimizing frictional forces.
