Ferner wird eine entsprechende Vorrichtung zur Durchführung einer Integritätsprüfung eines Filterelements vorgeschlagen.

An apparatus for manufacturing membranes is provided, the apparatus comprises a casting section, a processing section and a conveyor system. The casting section prepares a membrane that is conveyed to the processing section. The conveyor system conveys the membrane through the processing section. In the processing section, the membrane is conditioned in tanks to extract residues. The membrane is also subjected to a leak test to detect physical flaws in the membrane. The leak test involves applying a dye to a surface of the membrane. Any dye that leaks through the membrane will provide a high contrast dye mark on an adjacent contrast material, which is indicative of a physical flaw in the membrane. A process for manufacturing and testing membranes is also provided. The process comprises the steps of casting a membrane precursor, curing the membrane precursor to form a membrane and processing the membrane.

A flush pump feature on a liquid purifying filter includes a segment of flexible tubing containing a small bulb pump is described. Two check valves are positioned upstream and downstream of the bulb pump which then terminates with a simple manually operated open/closed valve. The addition of this flush pump feature enables the filter unit to be easily purged of air at first use and also will make the filter easier to clean and maintain without the need to remove it from a hydration carrier. In addition, the flush bulb feature can also be used to perform a simple visual integrity test of filter while out in a remote location and also can be used to effectively remove bulk water from the filter for lighter storage when not in use which also minimizes freeze related damage when used in a cold environment.

A system and a method are provided for detecting fiber damage in a dialyzer. The system may have a device which may transmit a gas into an interior of a fiber within a dialyzer. The temperature of the gas may be different than a temperature of the dialyzer. A thermal imaging camera may detect a temperature difference at a surface of the fiber where the gas may be escaping. The thermal imaging camera may be connected to a monitor which enables a user to view a location of the difference in temperature. As a result, the user may locate the damaged area of the fiber. The user may then repair the damaged area.

A system and method for detecting defects in a porous material web or dense film applies differential pressure across the material web or film. The pores and defects in the material web or the defects in the dense film may be filled with a liquid. In embodiments of the invention, differential pressure may be applied using a vacuum roller or other vacuum pressure application device. When the differential pressure applied to the material web exceeds the bubble point pressure of a defect, the liquid within that defect may be removed. An image, such as a thermal or photographic image, of the material web is captured after the differential pressure has been applied across the material web or film. Removal of the liquid from a defect is indicated in the image, allowing defects to be detected.
