The WMI architecture includes a framework, known as CIM Object Manager (or CIMOM), which exploits WMI providers of dynamic services for the managed objects; in the WMI architecture, the CIM providers must be implemented as Common Object Model (COM) objects and must comply with a specific WMI provider interface (named “IWbemServices”). The invention discloses integrating non-compliant providers, for example written in the Java language, into the WMI infrastructure. For this purpose, a bridge provider is associated with each managed object that is supported by the Java providers. The bridge provider identifies the Java provider that must be invoked to fulfill a particular request (based on a specific CIM qualifier); the parameters of the request are converted into Java types, and a corresponding method is called on an intermediate Java object. The intermediate Java object then routes the request to the appropriate Java provider.

The present invention provides for a method and system for the disposition of tasks which failed to run during their originally scheduled time. The determination of whether to run missed or delayed tasks is based on calculated ratios rather than on fixed window sizes. A Lateness Ratio is calculated to determine if the time elapsed between the missed task and the scheduled run time is small enough to still allow a late task to run. A Closeness Ratio is calculated to determine if the next available run time for the missed task is close enough to the next scheduled execution of the task that the missed task will be run in place of the upcoming scheduled task. Each ratio is compared to a user defined ratio limit, so if the calculated ratio does not exceed the limit, then the missed task is executed at the first available opportunity.

A compiler utility assigns memory locations to alias-free variables within a computer program. The compiler utility allocates memory keys for the alias-free variables, such that access to the memory locations of the alias-free variables is granted to blocks of code that have knowledge of the memory keys. In response to a command by the user, the compiler generates code to detect violations of alias assumptions during execution of the computer program. During the compiling process, the compiler adds the generated code for detecting violations of alias assumptions to the compiled computer program.

In an electronic design automation technique for optical proximity correction, an optimized mask function that has values other than those allowed for a particular mask type, such as 0 and 1 for a chrome-on-glass binary mask, evolves it to a solution restricted to these values or narrow intervals near them. The technique “regularizes” the solution by mixing in a new cost functional that encourages the mask to assume the desired values. The mixing in may be done over one or more steps or even “quasistatically,” in which the total cost functional and the mask is brought from pure goodness-of-fit to the printed layout for given conditions to pure manufacturability by keeping the total cost functional minimized step-by-step. A goal of this gradual mixing-in is to do thermodynamically optimal work on the mask function to bring it to manufacturable values.
