This invention refers to a microporous crystalline material of zeolitic nature that has, in its calcined state and in the absence of defects in its crystalline matrix manifested by the presence of silanols, the empirical formula x(M1/nXO2):yYO2:gGeO2:(1−g)SiO2 in which M is selected between H+, at least one inorganic cation of charge +n, and a mixture of both, X is at least one chemical element of oxidation state +3, Y is at least one chemical element with oxidation state +4 different from Si, x takes a value between 0 and 0.2, both included, y takes a value between 0 and 0.1, both included, g takes a value between 0 and 0.5, both included that has been denoted ITQ-55, as well as a method for its preparation. This invention also relates to uses of the crystalline material of zeolitic nature for adsorption of fluid components, membrane separation of fluid components, storage of fluid components, and catalysis of various conversion reactions.

The present disclosure relates generally to ceramic materials suitable for use as catalyst support materials, catalysts using such materials and methods for using them, such as methods for converting sugars, sugar alcohols, glycerol, and bio-renewable organic acids to commercially-valuable chemicals and intermediates. One aspect of the invention is a ceramic material including zirconium oxide and one or more metal oxides selected from nickel oxide, copper oxide, cobalt oxide, iron oxide and zinc oxide, the ceramic material being at least about 50 wt. % zirconium oxide. In certain embodiments, the ceramic material is substantially free of any binder or additional stabilizing agent.

Disclosed in the present invention is the use of a subgroup VI element to prepare a catalyst for the production of organic chemicals from lignin with the involvement of solvent molecules. The catalytic reaction use a catalyst composed of a molybdenum or tungsten compound as the active phase, with mixing a kind of lignin, a catalyst, and a reactive solvent. An inert or reductive gas such as H2, N2 or Ar is used to purge or fill the reaction vessel. The temperature is above 200 °C, the reaction time is sufficient. The liquid product is separated and analyzed. The present invention describes a catalytic process with a very high product yield, up to 90% if calculated accounting the parts from lignin of the product molecules, or up to over 100% if calculated as the mass products. The product includes aromatic compounds, esters, alcohols, monophenols and benzyl alcohols in different ratios according to the catalyst composition, the solvent and the other reaction conditions.

It is disclosed a process for producing a low boiling mixture comprising ethylene glycol and propylene glycol from a liquid sugar stream derived from a ligno-cellulosic biomass feedstock. The liquid sugar stream is catalytically converted in the presence of hydrogen to a mixture, which is separated into at least a high boiling mixture, comprising glycerol, and the low boiling mixture. The high boiling mixture is converted to hydrogen by reforming and the reforming hydrogen is used in the catalytical steps. Preferably, all the hydrogen used in the conversion process is generated by aqueous phase reforming of the high boiling polyols mixture.
