A medical device kit for assisting in the attachment of an artificial caput femur surface to an artificial acetabulum surface in an artificial articulating hip joint. The medical device kit comprises a first and second locking member for locking the artificial acetabulum surface clasping the artificial caput femur surface. The first and second locking members are each configured to, in a first state, hold the artificial caput femur surface clasped in the artificial acetabulum surface, and, in a second state, release the artificial caput femur surface from the artificial acetabulum surface. The locking members are adapted to change from the first state to the second state when first and second pre-determined strains are placed on the locking members, respectively. The second pre-determined strain is larger than the first predetermined strain.

The invention solves the problem of anchoring a prosthetic component into compliant, cancellous bone by a thin, preferably pure titanium, or a titanium-based alloy, perforated, hence hydraulically open, shell (1, 13), spaced apart from the second, non-perforated shell (2, 14). In most applications, dictated by the anatomical site of insertion, sehells are approximately hemispherical in form, connected to each other at the equator. The solid shell may contain a further, articulating component of the joint, e.g. a polymer or a ceramic insert, or it may serve that function itself. One or both components of a joint prosthesis can be anchored according to the invention.

The present invention also relates to a method of making such a prosthesis. The present invention can provide prostheses which are not required to be replaced again, thereby imposing a less burden to patients.

Die äussere Fläche (3) entspricht mindestens einer halbkugelförmig zusammenhängenden Fläche, um ohne Unstetigkeiten in der Oberfläche Kräfte bei verschiedenen Gelenkstellungen übertragen zu können. Erfindungsgemäss besteht die äussere Fläche aus einer verschleissfesten Kobaltlegierung, während die innere, am Knochengewebe (7) angreifende Fläche (2) aus Titan besteht und zu einem selbstschneidenden Innengewinde (4) mit konischem Einlauf (5) geformt ist. Beim Aufgewinden der Kappe (1) wird das sie berührende Knochengewebe (7) einschliesslich der Stirnfläche (11) des vorbearbeiteten Femurkopfs beim Blockieren der Drehbewegung durch das Auftreffen der gewölbten Innenfläche (13) verspannt.

A hip resurfacing femoral prosthesis has a partial ball component (20) having an outer surface (22) shaped to conform to an acetabular socket and has a mating sleeve component (10) with an internal bore (14) adapted to receive a femoral head (7). The head (7) has been shaped (71) and dimensioned to engage the bore (14) and is retained by bone ingrowth, an interference fit or by bone cement.
