PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control method of an exhaust emission control system and the exhaust emission control system capable of avoiding overheat of an engine by restraining a temperature rise in engine cooling water without stopping an air conditioner in regeneration control by a manual regeneration mode of a DPF device of an internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: In the regeneration control by the manual regeneration mode, when the first exhaust gas temperature Tg1 of exhaust gas flowing in an oxidation catalyst device 12a is higher than the predetermined determining temperature Tc1 and the temperature Tg2 of the exhaust gas flowing in the DPF device 12b is higher than the predetermined determining temperature Tc2, when the intake temperature Ta becomes higher than the expected third determining temperature Tc3, second exhaust gas temperature rise control for performing post-injection in addition to multi-injection is stopped, and is switched to third exhaust gas temperature rise control for performing the post-injection in addition to ordinary injection. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an excessive temperature raising treatment in consideration of a relation on temperature raising treatment between a particulate matter purification treatment and a sulfuric compound releasing treatment in an exhaust emission control device of an internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: When the temperature raising treatment for purifying the deposited amount of PM PMsm is approximately more than a temperature raising treatment capable of simultaneously releasing all deposited amount of sulfate SULFsm ("no" in S108), the temperature raising treatment for purifying the deposited amount of PM PMsm is performed for releasing sulfate to completely purify PM and completely release sulfate. Since a relation on the temperature raising treatment between the regeneration of PM and the release of sulfate is taken into account, the same state of the actual deposited amount of sulfate and the deposited amount of sulfate SULFsm expected for the sulfate release treatment can be maintained. Accordingly, the excessive temperature raising treatment in the sulfate release treatment can be prevented from occurring. Thus, the added fuel amount can be saved and a fuel economy can be improved. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control device capable of changing regeneration control for a plurality of catalysts depending on whether combustion mode is changed before or after regeneration control of catalyst or not to prevent worsening of drivability. SOLUTION: This exhaust emission control device is provided with a plurality of exhaust gas purifying means provided in exhaust passages connected with each of a plurality of groups of cylinders of the internal combustion engine to purify exhaust gas, a regeneration determining means for determining whether the exhaust gas purifying means are in a condition for regeneration or not, and a regeneration control means for controlling regeneration for regenerating the exhaust gas purifying means when it is determined by the regeneration determining means that the exhaust gas purifying means must be regenerated. The regeneration control means controls regeneration for the plurality of exhaust gas purifying means when combustion mode of the internal combustion engine is changed before or after regeneration control simultaneously and controls regeneration for each of the plurality of exhaust gas purifying means when combustion mode is not changed before or after regeneration control independently. Consequently, regeneration of the exhaust gas purifying means is properly performed to prevent worsening of fuel economy and drivability of the internal combustion engine even if the regeneration control is performed. A catalyst (18) is housed in a casing (11) arranged in the exhaust passage (16) of the engine (1). A pressure reducing valve (23), which is usually closed, is arranged in a bypass passage (21) branching off from the exhaust passage (17) upstream of the casing. The fuel injector (8) usually injects fuel at the combustion stroke or the exhaust stroke to feed hydrocarbon, and NOX is reduced in the catalyst by the hydrocarbon. When the catalyst is judged to be poisoned, the timing of the secondary fuel injection is advanced with respect to the timing of the usual secondary fuel injection, and the pressure reducing valve is opened to reduce the pressure in the casing. In this way, the catalyst is reactivated.

SOLUTION: ECU intermittently performs post injection stop pattern in which post injection command signal is not output after regular injection command signal when post injection operation is performed. Namely, the post injection stop pattern is performed with overlapping cylinders (#1, #4 cylinder) right before non-overlap cylinders (#2, #5 cylinder) in an order of regular injection in the non-overlap cylinders (#2, #5 cylinder) and the overlap cylinders (#1, #3, #4, #6 cylinder). Consequently, heat generation of the injector drive circuit can be suppressed. Simultaneously, injection pressure of an injector to each cylinder at a time of regular injection can be stabilized. The preliminary combustion is conducted around an upper dead center by first fuel injection, and the main combustion is conducted later than normally by second fuel injection, and after completion of the preliminary combustion.
