PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control system and an exhaust emission control method capable of improving an NOx purifying property at a low temperature, and preventing generation of white smoke and the like by HC slip in DPF regeneration at a low temperature, by installing a pre-oxidation catalyst at an upstream of an exhaust emission control device including the pre-oxidation catalyst and controlling fuel injection in multi-stage temperature rise injection and post injection.SOLUTION: An exhaust gas G of an internal combustion engine 11 is allowed to pass through an exhaust emission control device 20 after passing through a pre-oxidation catalyst 25, a multi-stage temperature rise injection is executed when a first temperature T1 of the exhaust gas G at an upstream side of the exhaust emission control device 20 is lower than a first set temperature T1c, post injection is executed in addition to the multi-stage temperature rise injection when the first temperature T1 becomes the first set temperature T1c or more, and the post injection is feedback-controlled so that a second temperature T2 of the exhaust gas G at a downstream side of the exhaust gas control device 20 becomes a second set temperature T2c.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compression ignition engine capable of increasing the concentration of carbon monoxide (CO) in an exhaust gas and heating an exhaust emission control catalyst due to heat generation reaction of CO.SOLUTION: There are provided a compression ignition engine capable of being operated in a first normal running mode and a second mode for generating the exhaust gas containing carbon monoxide (CO) of a level increased to be compared with the first mode, and a means switched between the two modes in use. The engine includes a carried palladium (Pd) catalyst relating to at least a kind of a base metal promotor and/or a carried platinum (Pt) catalyst arranged downstream of the Pd catalyst relating to the Pd catalyst at request. CO is oxidized with the Pd catalyst carried in operation of the second mode.
