Abstract:
Carboxylic acids are manufactured by reaction of methyl ketones with hypochlorites in the presence of bromine, iodine, haloamides, and/or polymerization inhibitors. The products are starting materials for the manufacture of dyes, plant protection agents, tanning agents, pickling agents, bates, vulcanizing agents and scents.
Abstract:
Saturated aliphatic, cycloaliphatic and araliphatic aldehydes are prepared by selective hydrogenation of the corresponding olefinically unsaturated aldehydes with hydrogen in the liquid phase over a palladium-containing catalyst, using a catalyst system in which the active constituents are from 2 to 90% by weight of palladium and from 10 to 98% by weight of an oxide or a salt of a rare earth metal or of a mixture of different oxides and/or salts of this type.
Abstract:
Alkyl pyruvates are prepared by oxidizing alkyl lactates in the presence of a silver catalyst of a defined particle size, at from 450.degree. to 700.degree. C. The products are starting materials for the preparation of drugs, synthetic resins and plastics.
Abstract:
3-Methyl-2-buten-1-al is prepared by isomerizing 3-methyl-3-buten-1-al in the presence of acidic or basic compounds. The product is a starting material for the manufacture of dyes, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, plastics and scents.
Abstract:
3-Alkyl-buten-1-als are prepared by oxidative dehydrogenation of 3-alkyl-buten-1-ols in the presence of a silver catalyst, of a particular total thickness, comprising 2 or more layers each of a particular weight and containing particles of a particular size. The products are starting materials for the manufacture of dyes, pesticides, drugs, plastics, naturally occurring materials and scents.
Abstract:
4-(m,m'-ditert.-butyl-p-hydroxyphenyl)-butan-2-ones are produced by reaction of a 4-hydroxybutanone-(2) with 2,6-ditert.-butylphenol in the presence of a strong acid at elevated temperature. The compounds obtainable by the process, particularly 4-(m,m'-ditert.-butyl-p-hydroxyphenyl)-butane-2-one, are starting materials for the production of dyes, pest control agents and plastics auxiliaries and particularly of stabilizers for polyolefins and polyamides.
Abstract:
A process for the manufacture of a catalyst capable of causing condensation of aldehydes with ketones or ketones with each other while simultaneously hydrogenating the resulting olefinically unsaturated ketones to saturated ketones in the presence of hydrogen without attacking the ketone group, and containing zinc in addition to nickel or cobalt. The catalyst is subjected, prior to use, to a surface after-treatment with a zinc salt.
Abstract:
Novel 4-(m,m'-di-t-butyl-p-hydroxyphenyl)-butyl-2 compounds whihc are intermediates in the manufacture of dyes, pesticides and plastics auxiliaries, particularly stabilizers for polyolefins and polyamides. When molten, they form specific solvents for alkylphenols and are perfumes or form ingredients of perfume compositions having a fruity odor.
Abstract:
The production of 3-methylpentane-1,5-diol by hydroformylation of 2-methylbut-1-en-4-ol with carbon monoxide and hydrogen at elevated temperature and superatmospheric pressure in the presence of a rhodium carbonyl complex which has been modified by a tertiary organic phosphine followed by hydrogenation of the 2-hydroxy-4-methyltetrahydropyran at elevated temperature and superatmospheric pressure in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst.
Abstract:
Aliphatic hydroxycarbonyl compounds etherified with aliphatic groups are prepared by oxidizing hydroxyalcohols in the presence of a metal catalyst which consists of one or more layers, each of a particular weight and each containing particles of a particular size, the catalyst bed also having a particular total thickness, and the catalyst components used being silver and copper, with or without added copper/tin/phosphorus or silver alone. The etherified hydroxyaldehydes and hydroxyketones obtainable by the process of the invention are valuable starting materials for the preparation of dyes, pesticides, plastics and scents.
