Abstract: Polyester pressure-sensitive adhesives are described. The polyester includes at least two different diacid residues and at least two different diol residues. The polyester includes at least one pendant group containing an alkenyl group. A ratio of a total number of the at least one pendant group to the total number of ester groups in the polyester is in a range of 0.001 to 0.1. The polyester has a glass transition temperature in a range of −50° C. to −10° C.

Abstract: A retarder including first and second outer layers and a birefringent layer disposed between and in direct contact with the first and second outer layers is described. The birefringent layer may include a first polyester having greater than 45 mole percent naphthalate units and greater than 45 mole percent ethylene units. Each of the first and second outer layers includes a second polyester which may include 40 to 50 mole percent naphthalate units, at least 25 mole percent ethylene units, and 10 to 25 mole percent of branched or cyclic C4-C10 alkyl units. The retarder has a retardance in a range of 1 micrometer to 100 micrometers.

Abstract: A tear resistant multilayer film including a stack of polymeric layers that includes first and second layer types. Layers of the first layer type includes a first polymer and the layers of the second layer type includes a second polymer. The first polymer is polyethylene terephthalate or a first ester block copolymer that includes polyethylene terephthalate blocks at a weight percent of the first ester block copolymer of at least 50 percent and further includes glycol-modified polyethylene terephthalate blocks. The second polymer is sebacic acid-substituted polyethylene terephthalate or a second ester block copolymer that includes sebacic acid-substituted polyethylene terephthalate blocks at a weight percent of the second ester block copolymer of at least 50 percent and further includes polyethylene terephthalate blocks or glycol-modified polyethylene terephthalate blocks. The tear resistant multilayer film includes a total of 8 to 300 layers of the first and second layer types.

Abstract: A dental appliance for positioning a patients teeth includes a polymeric shell with a plurality of cavities for receiving one or more teeth. The polymeric shell includes at least 3 alternating polymeric layers AB, wherein layer A includes a thermoplastic polymer A, layer B includes a thermoplastic polymer B, and the thermoplastic polymer B is different from the thermoplastic polymer A. Each of the thermoplastic polymers A and B have a flexural modulus of about 1.0 GPa to about 4.0 GPa; and each of the thermoplastic polymers A and B have a glass transition temperature (Tg) greater than about 40° C.

Abstract: A substrate including a self-supporting tri-layer stack is described. The tri-layer stack includes first and second outer layers and a biaxially oriented layer disposed between and in direct contact with the first and second outer layers. The biaxially oriented layer may include a first polyester having greater than 45 mole percent naphthalate units and greater than 45 mole percent ethylene units. Each of the first and second outer layers includes a second polyester which may include 40 to 50 mole percent naphthalate units, at least 25 mole percent ethylene units, and 10 to 25 mole percent of branched or cyclic C4-C10 alkyl units.

Abstract: Adhesives including a polyester at 20 to 50 weight percent, a first tackifier at 30 to 60 weight percent, and a first olefin-styrene block copolymer at 5 to 30 weight percent are described. The polyester has a glass transition temperature between −40° C. and −10° C., and the adhesive has a heat activation temperature between 20° C. and 100° C. Damping films including at least one layer of the adhesive and including a foamed layer are described. The foamed layer includes a second olefin-styrene block copolymer at 30 to 80 weight percent and a second tackifier at 15 to 60 weight percent.

Abstract: A brightness enhancement film including a monolithic layer and a microstructured layer adjacent the monolithic layer. The microstructured layer has a first major surface and an opposing second major surface. The first major surface includes a first plurality of microstructures and the second major surface faces the first monolithic layer. The monolithic layer includes a polyester that includes at least about 70 mole percent naphthalenedicarboxylate groups based on total carboxylate groups. The polyester may include one or more catalysts having a total concentration by weight in a range of 10 to 1000 ppm. The first monolithic layer has a thickness in the range of about 5 μm to about 300 μm. The first monolithic layer may be substantially free of non-catalyst particulate matter and may have a haze of less than 1 percent.

Abstract: The present disclosure describes a front projection system. The front projection system includes a light absorbing layer having an absorbance in a visible range of the electromagnetic spectrum of at least 80% and a light diffusing layer disposed on the light absorbing layer between the light absorbing layer and the projector. The light diffusing layer includes a plurality of metal flakes uniformly distributed in a host material, an average size of the plurality of metal flakes being in a range from about 0.5 microns to about 20 microns, at concentration of in a range from about 3% to about 30% by weight. A plurality of light absorbing particles uniformly distributed in the host material at a concentration of less than about 7% by weight, and a major front surface facing the projector having an average surface roughness in a range from about 0.5 microns to about 10 microns.
