Abstract:
Disclosed herein are gemini surfactants, and methods for making and using these gemini surfactants. These gemini surfactants may be incorporated in paints and coatings to provide hydrophilic and/or self-cleaning properties.
Abstract:
Compositions and methods for making gel electrolytes for batteries are disclosed. The gel electrolyte composition may include a polymer with a plurality of isocyanate groups and a blocking agent contacting at least one of the plurality of isocyanate groups. At least one negative electrode and at least one positive electrode may be in contact with the gel electrolyte composition to form a battery.
Abstract:
Printed circuit boards, or PCBs, may include cross-linked oligomers that have been modified to prevent corrosion and have reduced flammability. The oligomers may be functionalized to include cross-linkable moieties and a flame retardant. The modified materials are more environmentally benign and less toxic than current fiberglass technologies used to manufacture PCBs.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein are hydrophilic microfibers and hydrophilic nanofibers, and methods for making these hydrophilic microfibers and nanofibers. The hydrophilic microfibers and/or nanofibers provide hydrophilic and/or self-cleaning properties when incorporated in paints and coatings.
Abstract:
Functionalized microspheres for being dispersed in matrix materials to reduce the density and weight of the materials may be configured to include a covalently bound surface component which is configured to covalently bond with the matrix material so that when combined with the matrix material a strong, light-weight matrix material may be produced.
Abstract:
Acrylamide-based conductive compounds, and methods of making and using the acrylamide-based conductive compounds are disclosed. The acrylamide-based conductive compounds may include monomers or may be formed into polymers and acrylamide-based conductive materials, such as gels. The acrylamide-based conductive materials may be formed using inflammable or high boiling point fluids. The acrylamide-based conductive compounds described herein may conduct, coordinate, or otherwise be associated with various ions, including, without limitation, lithium ions, sodium ions and potassium ions. As such, acrylamide-based conductive compound may be used to support ion movement within electrical components and/or power devices such as batteries and capacitors.
Abstract:
Methods of producing graphene, reaction chambers for forming graphene, and graphene sheets formed from the methods are described herein. A method may include adding at least one metal catalyst in a reaction chamber, adding at least one hydrocarbon gas in the reaction chamber, allowing the at least one metal catalyst and the at least one hydrocarbon gas to contact one another to produce a product, and dehydrogenating the product to produce the graphene.
Abstract:
A compound includes a boron atom attached to at least one C8-C26 fatty acid residue having at least one C═C moiety. Such compounds are polymerizable through the at least one C═C moiety. Polymers thus formed exhibit anti-fouling properties when used as coatings.
Abstract:
Disclosed are polymers having one or more two-photon absorbing chromophores in a backbone of the polymers. The polymers degrade upon two-photon excitation, which allows for easy decomposition of polymeric products made therefrom. The decomposition can occur when the polymer is exposed to light of intensities sufficient to induce the two-photon excitation, which in turn cleaves the polymer at one or more sites where the chromophores are attached.
Abstract:
Hydrophilic, self-cleaning coating compositions and methods to make and use the compositions are disclosed. The coatings comprise perlite and/or expanded perlite that are activated with hydrophilic agents. The perlites when incorporated in paints provide hydrophilic, self-cleaning and/or biocidal property to the coating.
