An improved blending apparatus for blending of wood strands in the manufacture of engineered wood products. The blending process is performed with a rotating blending drum with an internal offset spike/paddle roll. The spike/paddle roll is substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the drum, extends for some, all, or substantially all of the length of the drum, may rotate in either direction, and can rotate independently of or in conjunction with the rotation of the drum. The roll has a central cylinder or rod with a number of paddles, spikes, and/or tines, separately or in combinations, extending from the exterior. The paddles, spikes, and/or tines may extend at various angles and directions, including, but not limited to, substantially right angles. The paddles, spikes, and/or tines may be made of any suitable materials, including, and may be made of different materials. The rod may be driven by an external or internal motor or drive, or powered by the rotation of the drum itself.

The present invention provides a tumbler and a method for treating meat before cooking. The method includes inserting up to 3 kg of the meat to a tumbler comprising a light-weight chamber securely and rotatably mountable on a support, and is designed to allow the dismantling of the chamber from the tumbler by a typical housekeeper. The method further includes pouring a solution into the tumbler; and operating it to tumble the meat for a desired time period under atmospheric pressure. The tumbler of the invention has ribs that are either with only rounded edges or shaped to have in their cross-section solely obtuse angles, to facilitate massaging of the meat.

The polymer particles (1) in the first mixing event are mixed with a speed such that the kinetic energy of the individual polymer particles (1) is on average larger than the adhesion energy of the individual polymer particles (1), and the polymer particles (1) in the second mixing event are stirred at a lower speed than in the first mixing event. The different speeds effect a fluidization of the polymer particles (1), which prevents a clumping of the polymer particles (1) during the mixing event. The absorbent polymers thus produced are distinguished by a particularly rapid swelling behavior.

An apparatus for and method of enabling enhanced, selective agitation of liquid containing a solid-phase reagent. The apparatus includes at least one liquid-bearing container, a circular tray, and a motor. The liquid-bearing container(s) includes at least one internal baffle that imparts turbulent agitation to the liquid when flowing from one end of the container to an opposite end. The circular tray is adapted for selective rotation about a vertical axis of rotation. The rotary circular tray assembly includes container-receiving stations that selectively retain a respective liquid-bearing container in an inclined or pitched orientation with respect to a horizontal plane. The motor creates centrifugal force, which causes liquid in the container(s) to travel from the first end of the container to the second end of the container via the internal baffle(s), agitating the liquid and the solid-phase portions of the reagent. When gravitational force exceeds the centrifugal force, liquid in the container(s) travels from the second end of the container to the first end of the container via the internal baffle(s), again agitating the liquid and the solid-phase portions of the reagent.
