Polymeric compounds useful as low foaming surfactants and defoaming and stabilizing agents for aqueous-and nonaqueous-based compositions, and to processes for the preparation of the polymeric compounds, wherein the polymeric compounds are the reaction products of reactants comprising A) at least one linking compound of formula I R1(X)3 (I) wherein each X group is a halogen atom or one X group is a halogen atom and two X groups represent an epoxy oxygen atom, which is attached to two adjacent carbon atoms in the R1 group to form an epoxy group, and R1 is an alkanetriyl group containing from 3 to 10 carbon atoms; and B) compounds of formula 11 R2(OA)nX (II) wherein R2 is an organic group containing from 4 to 36 carbon atoms, n is a number of from 0 to 200, X is —OH, —NHR′, or —SH and each OA group is independently an ethyleneoxy, 1,2-propyleneoxy, or 1,2-butyleneoxy group.

Reaction products of an optionally alkoxylated alcohol, a polyalkylene alcohol and a linker can be used in various applications such as defoamers. Methods of making the reaction products and defoamer compositions including the reaction products, and methods of using the reaction products to reduce or prevent foam in a composition are also disclosed. The reaction products can be used with an organic solvent or without an organic solvent to provide low VOC compositions.

A cationically stabilizable amino-functional polymer having a number-average molecular weight of >3000, exists in the presence of water as a solution or stable emulsion only when the pH is ≦8. Upon drying the polymer contains ethenically unsaturated moieties selected from the group consisting of acrylic, methacrylic, and enamine. The polymer is useful to promote adhesion of curable inks and other coatings for plastic film. The invention further relates to a plastic film comprising such polymer.

Polymeric barriers for organic light emitting diodes are formed in-situ by encapsulation or polymerization. Encapsulation with melamine-cyanurate is performed using sublimation reaction technique. An encapsulation technique involves curing a layer of resin made by mixing a polyaza aryl compound, such as melamine, melam, or melem, with a cyanuryl triglycidyl ether. Another encapsulation technique involves curing a layer of resin made by mixing the polyaza aryl aromatic compound in 2,4,6-tricyanatophenyl glycidyl ether or tetracyanatobenzene applied to an organic light emitting diode. Photo catalytic curing of the coating may be achieved in the presence of catalysts such as titanium IV oxide acetylacetonate.

Surfactant compounds are of the general formula (I): R1(R2)X1CH2CH(OH)CH2(OA)nOR3 (I) where R1 is hydrocarbyl; R2 is hydrocarbyl; R2 is H or hydrocarbyl; X1 is a nitrogen containing group as defined, and R3 is hydrocarbyl, and X1 n and AO have defined meanings, provided that at least one group R1, R2 or R3 is or contains a C6 to C30 hydrocarbyl group. The compounds of the formula (I) can function as surfactants in agrochemical formulations, particularly as emulsifiers, wetting agents, dispersants, thickeners or solubilisers and, especially as adjuvants; or as and, especially for amino oxide or quaternary compounds, in personal care formulations or as fabric softeners. The compounds can be used as adjuvants particularly where the agrochemical is a plant growth regulator, herbicide, and/or pesticide, for example insecticides, fungicides, acaricides, nematocides, miticides, rodenticides, bactericides, molluscicides and/or a bird repellent. Particularly useful formulations include water soluble herbicide(s), particularly such as Glyphosate, Sulfosate, Glufosinate and Paraquat.
